I just got back from the LA boat show. I saw the new 35 Lightning ICBM with staggered 525's. What an impressive rig! The engine compartment is very long, but they did a skillful job of taking a little here and a little there so that it is hardly missed in the cabin and cockpit. The drives are very close together and the Fountain Rep, Martin Sanborn was very helpful and informative. He said the boat is extremly stable at 100 mph. I want one! But since I just bought the Fountain that I have I guess I will have to wait a couple of years.

They are a cool Boat we have hull # 1 in the show room and is going to the Boston show next week What a package!

Any more info on the 35 Lightning with stagggerd HO's. I havn't seen much info on this set up. The 525's get all the attention. 90+ with just HO's would be awsome. Thinking this could be my next boat.

The new Lightnings are awesome, but I couldn't handle the small cockpit. The rear cockpit seats are way cramped, which is why I ended up with an 05. Of course the plan backfired, as I thought the larger cockpit would win the family over. :D

Was at the LA boat show earlier today. Fountain was represented and they were offering a loaded 07 35 Lightning with staggered 496 Mag HOs, X drives and your choice of paint for $188,000. The same boat with 525s was $230,000.
I understand the 496 boat is good to 93 MPH and the 525 boat does better than 101. I'm considering taking the plunge - I'm actually showing mine to a friend of a friend from out of town next weekend. Although I'd love to have the 525s, I'm partial to the 496s because of insurance and maint. costs. Anyone out there have one of these yet? If so, how about your take on it? Thanks, Rick |

I have the test report that comes from Fountain on a 06 with 525's and top speed was only 92.

I to like the staggered set up on the 35. However, as you said
the cockpit is down right cramped. I think the 38Lght with staggerd mills is the perfect set up. I also like the roll-away cabin door and the updated dash with GPS. The only problom is the 38s are going for at least 300k new. I wonder with the current state of the economy how well they are selling? |
I love both motors but the 496 is the way 2 go. Gas is goin to 4 bucks a gallon & u can run 87 octane no prob!

The recommended octane for the 525 is 87. I am told it builds more HP with 87 than it does with 93 octane.
True, they are set up to run on 87 and there is nothing to gain from the higher octane fuel. Exactly why I just bought a 35 Lightning with a pair of them :D. Where I boat higher octane fuel is getting harder to come by on the water and I suspect that trend will continue. |
