I rode in a 38 Lightening with 700's it's a 114 MPH boat! It's fabulous. Good luck with it. I ended up buying the 35 lightening with 525's. I love it.

Congrats Roger. Would the dealer not give you a decent trade in price on your 35?

Should be #6's or at least NXT w/ #6 lowers.

Re: 38 w/700s Just put down a deposit

The #6 lower cant be put on an NXT. They take the whole NXT drive off, then bolt on a #6. Fountain uses 6's for the 700 package.

Marginmn, I got a pretty good deal on the boat, (I think) and to trade I would have had to take too much of a beating. Matthew Smith is looking after selling my 35, I bought it from him, and he is also putting it on e-bay. It is pictured in the classifieds, has plasma graphics w/only 47 hours on it.

Thanks for clearing that up. Someone had told me that the lowers could be swapped. I was not sure but I know better now.

Curious about the performance difference on the new 38's with the staggered set up vs the non staggered, say a 2001 38 twin step. Anyone have any experience to know roughly how much different with same power? tia for you input.

Roger 02-23-2007 03:11 PM

around 15 MPH

hammer01 02-23-2007 03:36 PM

wow, the stagger, new step, or combination with the weight distribution change? I am shocked that the stagger could make that much difference.

pullmytrigger 02-23-2007 03:38 PM

The Chevelle business must be good  Congrats!

BTW Just picked up my 69' Chevelle project car, 307 powerglide car....... its rough but Im going to take it all the way apart, channel it and put a stretched late model stock car chassis underneath, fully adjstable suspension, 12" wide tires on all 4, big brakes, quickchange, screamin' smallblock...... she'll be bad:cool:

congrats again on the boat!!

Roger 02-23-2007 04:04 PM

Thanks, call me if you need any parts, (no the price did not go up because of the new boat) LOL. To answer the earlier question, angle of attack, drive height, center of gravity, laying the boat down instead of raising the bow to allow the steps to work all contribute to a higher speed. By the way our crew chief help set up the new 38 for these higher speeds after we set the v record at 112.025 with 525s in a 38. Roger
