Bow rail removal
 

how bad does this screw up your headliner? Was thinking of taking them off & having them powder coated. Is there a way to gain access to the bolts without pulling back the H/L?

All my bolts are up behind the side light trim panels and behind the counter plastic/ceiling trim. I had the trim section off that goes on the bottom side of the upper plastic panel, so a couple of those bolts where easy to get to then. 1 rear most bolt drivers side, I did have to pull down the ceiling in the closet to access it. That headliner is just double sided sticky chit. Stapled back up when I reinstalled. None above the headliner itself. Feel up behind the panels. Several of my bolts had a FG layer over them and had to be cut out, so look close. The rail is put on before the top half is mated to the hull. I think the deck to hull joint joining was the reason for the FG over the bolts.

A buddy did his 42 Lightning, and had same methods as my Fever. Takes 2 people. Those rails will want to straighten out as you remove them, so need someone on the outside to hold it while you unscrew it to keep it from moving and scratching the boat.

i also have mine powdercoated blue and that is great advise on 2 people.it is not a bad job just make sure you seal it up when you put it back together.good luck!!!!!!!

I have a set powdercoated white off a 42' I did not put them back on so they have been hanging in the shop foe 2 years. Let me know if anyone wants them.

I re-did my white factory rails (they chipped really easy) done with "Metal-Loc" Dupont paint by a body shop. We use this for custom painting of aluminum fuel tanks on semi trucks. Holds up better than powder coat and the ladies won't chip the rails with their jewelry and rings.

All my rails were white when I bought the boat. The rear handles had chips were each of the cockpit cover snaps hit them from putting the cover on. The side rails had a few chips from who knows what. The white always looked dirty. I removed all the rails, grab handles, and seat frames and stripped the PC'ing off and polished the rails to a mirror shine. Took me all winter, but I think it looks better with the SS shine. PLus no worries about chips and scratches now.

I like the look but agree with you. They do get dirty and is somewhat of a hassle. I love my SS on the 42.

do you or anyone els know how to and what is involved in removing bow railes on a 1993 sportfish CC ...... are there large holes?> will just be able to unscrew the screws and then srew them back in and leave them ???
