Took delivery today. 2004 Lightning 38 with twin 525's 40 hours. Cyclone graphics with race fairing. Still wondering about if I should change to switchable exhaust and if I should change the mufflers to tips. Would be grateful for any help on the exhaust issue.

PS had a prior thread concerning insurance. FYI Had quotes from $2000 to $6700..... Went with a quote for $2683 from Inamar.........Hope this is a fair quote.

INDY27 03-30-2007 10:05 PM

Great looking boat! I would personally get rid of the stock muffled tips and go with either Imco muffled tips or a switchable setup.

SBIRTLES 03-30-2007 10:17 PM

Thanks Indy..... i am thinking of changing the y-pipes to include switchable exhaust, and change the mufflers to 8" ss with internal and external flappers......

Check out the Teague ST-450's for exhaust tips the best of both worlds....had them on 27 Fountain with a single....loved them....BZ

p.s. congrats on the new boat

That is a gorgeous boat - the cyclone graphis are just perfect on the 38 and the fairing really sets off the lines. Wish you the best of luck with her.

monstaaa 03-31-2007 07:36 PM

best of luck. as far as the exhaust you can install the switchables from a couple of manufacturers. if your interested i am a fountain dealer on longisland, and may be able to assist you with your install. i have a lot of love and experience with the fountains which are my passion. shoot me a p.m.

The rigging in the engine compartment looks great, is Fountain getting the hint?

wHAT DO YOU SELL?

SBIRTLES 04-02-2007 07:28 AM

I sell New Hondas, New Saturns and late model Luxury brands, Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, Acura, Jaguar, Infiniti, Porsche, Audi Ect.

DollaBill 04-02-2007 08:11 PM

Lose the mufflers and the wheel. I hate those steering wheels. Otherwise, a great boat. The 38 w/ 525's is a great mild package. Reliable and safe

SBIRTLES 04-02-2007 08:37 PM

Which steering wheel would you choose FnI?? I like the wheel on the newer Cigarettes. As far as the mufflers they will be gone... I need to get teage switcable tips or new diverters to be able to swich to through prop.

As far as the Mild with 525's. It will be the fastest boat I have ever owned and I am sure I will be fine at 85-90 mph. The newer boats are better suited for 600's and 700's. If I enjoy owning the fountain I will rely on you and the rest of the board to get me in the right power in my 2008 or 2009 42.

Thanks in advance on the wheel pick......
Scott

Nice ride!! I saw it at Ocean Performance today. It looks better in person than it does in the pics. Congrats!! You should consider the Poker Run that Ocean puts on with Poker Runs America.

Very nice. I particularly like the cyclone graphics. Congratulations.

New Exhaust Coming

Thanks Fountain 40. I know the pics posted don't show the boat very well. I will post more pics when the boat in finished at Ocean Performance. Changing to straight tips and I am adding Silent Choice. Also having sirius radio added and looking into receivers and an amp.
Thanks for the post.

I noticed your new boat has a race fairing. Mine did too when built new but changed to a windshield. I have a set of never used zip-up windows made for the race fairing application for a fountain bimini top if intrested. Also included are all stainless bars. These are still in the orginal factory convas bag.

I have an 01-42 Lightning. It was sold new in 2003 and was sent back to factory to have graphics installed. The original race fairing was then replaced with the standard Lightning windshield. At that time, new zip - up windows were made for the bimini top which came with the boat. The old zip-windows (front and side curtains) stayed with boat. I've had these for three years now and have never used them. Up til recently, I did not even realize the difference between the two sets. I obviously don't need the one set. Yes, they can probably be made to fix and X style windshield because they are made to fasten to snaps at the base of the race fairing. They also include the extra stainless bracing for the top. These braces fasten to a cleat behind the windshield and have pieces that fasten between each up-right that forms the top.

Downtown42 04-10-2007 01:00 PM

thanks, I don't think I've seen one.
