fountains w/efi or carbs?
i have noticed that some newer fountains94-02 years have efi,and some have carbs.do fountains still come from the factory with carbs,or are people swapping out the efi for carbs for the added performance and serviceablity?

most of the carbs wee h.p 500's and the last of the production run. for the most part. the later is also true for a portion of the rest.

good thing about e.f.i is you can click it and then brick it.

When EFI works, its better than carbs.
When EFI goes wrong, its a very, very big $$$$$$ operation, and you'll lose a season tracking down the problems. With carbs, its very obvious what the problem is, and the fix is really cheap. The $5 per weekend you'll save in fuel is totally lost on the much, MUCH more expensive maintenance over the life of the engine. Having owned 10 years of EFI engines after three decades of carb engines, I estimate the cost of owning EFI is about $5K per year more than carbs. The biggest problem: you can't fix it yourself. The second biggest problem: your mechanic almost certainly can't fix it either. |
gas and go is why i bought the fountain.i mean i love injection...but do not know jack about it other than it is big bucks when u have problems.i havent had any problems yet,but the boat is a 94 w/402 hours and i know soon something will go elpaso.carbs i know what to do.other than changing the fuel filter, what other things should i be looking at?
