Default Gummy Fuel Coming Out Of Fuel Vent

I Have An '05 27 With A 525. Had It Winterized Last Fall And Took It To The Lake A Few Weeks Ago But We Ended Up Having To Come Back So I Did Not Run It. I Did Fill It With Fuel While I Was There. When I Went To Pick It Up Yesterday To Get It Ready For This Weekend There Was A What Looked Like Gummy Fuel All Down The Side Of The Boat Coming From The Fuel Vent Next To The Fuel Cap. I Spent Almost 5 Hours Cleaning It Off But It Has Stained The Paint Job In Some Areas As Well As The Rub Rail. Anyone Heard Of This Before? Any Ideas On What It Is? Only Thing I Can Think Of Is That Fuel Was Sittin In The Vent House And Gummed Up. When I Filled With Fresh Fuel It Must Of Forced It Out While It Was Sitting.

Fuel expands when it gets warm.....Before I learned that lesson I had a STREAM (not a drip!!!) coming out one warm spring day. The gum could be old fuel from the vent hose and hopefully not what's in the tank.

Yea - I filled up my tank before putting it away one day. Expanded and ran down the sides for 2 weeks before realizing what was going on. FSR and castrol degreaser and raindance wax and 3 hours later and thank God it didnt screw up my paint. Learned my lesson on that one. Take the day off and run some fuel out of it. You are probably ok in the tank and the gummy stuff was from some old gas mixing with some dirt running down your sides. Keep us posted.

Yep...you only make that mistake once. All the winterization information tell you fill you gas tanks up in the fall before you put your boat away to avoid condensation in the gas tank. You fill your boat up with gas at 50 degrees in the fall and when spring rolls around and the temps get up to 70-80, the fuel expands and starts running out the vents. We dont top off the tanks anymore in the fall.

I always put the stabalizer in, fill it up and run down river about 5 miles and back before putting it on the trailer. That gets the stabalizer in the motors and leaves a little expansion room in the tanks.
