iboat cover for 42 Ex.
 

Thinking about buying full cover from iboat, for my 2005 42 Ex. They only have in stock covers for the Lightnings. Which Lightning cover would fit the best on my 42 Ex with the Plexie windshield? Don't most of the Lightning have the high Framed windshields?

Your Ex is the same as the original Lightnings...when Fountain changed to the framed winshield and the popped up deck, they didn't change the name for the new style, but did for the older style! So, make sure what year Lightning the cover was made.

I went through the same exercise for my 1997 35' Lightning. Decided on a cusom cover from a local canvas shop made from material that weighs about 6 oz... The cover should weigh about half of what it would of with some of the very popular, high quality, but heavier materials such as TopGun...

Just found another cover maker. boatcoversdirect.com. They have a pattern for 2007 42 Ex. I think this should be right up my alley. Was going to have a cover made, but why spend $1800 when you can get one for $660. I'm sure I can live with a little less quality if any at all for a $1100 savings.

How did the cover fit, and how far did it come down below the rub rail. Was the vent hole and pole an option or do they supply it?

Fits like a snug shower cap and falls just below the rubrail. It has a shock cord sewn into it with a tie down loop about every 3 feet. Poles and vents are options. I have the shorty windshield (FYI).

Looks like a custom fit cover. Make sure you specify make/model/year when you order. That may help.

Okay, i bit the bullet and purchased a new cover for my 38 Lightning. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. The people at boatcoversdirect.com were very helpful. The price was pretty reasonable as well--around $550.

I'll concur that they were very nice to deal with. Plus, they offer full refunds if you don't like it. Nothing to lose!
