Cracks In Bilge/Bulkhead Area
3 Attachment(s)
Has anyone seen this before on the smaller fountains - 27' or 29'? My camera is older but you can see the cracks in the bulkhead area in front of the engine and just behind the rear bench seat back. The starboard side runs from the top of the bulkhead down and across to the first drain hole at the first stringer... The port side does not go all the way down the bulkhead. Not sure on the extent of the damage but supposed to find out this week. My buddy says it's not that bad but it sure p_ssed me off. I hope he's right. Must admit that I did not expect anything like this from Reginald.

No cracks on my -93 27. It looks like there is not enough fiberglass, allowing too much flex. Should be an easy fix though.

Grind it down and re-glass it beforw it fails. This could happen to any boat. Most likely it did not bond completely due to dust or moister in the panel. I am not a professional, but I have done some glass work on my own stuff. Sometimes if you mix the resin too "hot" it will not set right and come loose. You may see crack down by the firewall drain holes, too much resin there. But that has no structural purpose.

Go to West Products, I think, and get their video and free manuals on fiberglass repair. They are great sources of information and their products are excellent.
