H2O Pressure on 05 42 Exec
I have just recenlty added IMCO 2" shorties on our 525 Whipple charged engines. While turning, the outside engine's water pressure drops to zero. We have sea strainers installed and pressure relief dumps as well. I know this can't be good....I was just wondering if anyone else out there had expeirenced the same problems with similar "upgrades". Any advice/comments would be greatly appreciated.

i ha da similiar issue on a 38 with boxes. the same thing would happen if you trimied past 3 and 1/2. a 1/2 spacer solved this issue in this case. do you know what your xdimension is?

Dont know what the new x dimension is after shorties were installed...Im sure I could pull the stock info off the factory test report.....that probably wouldnt help though. IMCO tells me that fountains x dimension measurements are different than what IMCO goes by. I believe IMCO goes by the distance from the center of the propshaft to the lowest point on the bottom of the hull. I might try the 1/2" spacer route....it makes sense.

the new x dimension is the factory cut x dimension minus 2 inches. the x is determined by the distance from the bottom of the boat to the center of the crank. all x's are figured this way.

I also have a '05 42 EX with a water pressure issue. Usually runs 40-45 on the gauges. Went to Lake Travis last month after heavy rains and lots of debris and now one of the pressure gauges reads 15-20 higher than the other but engine temps remain normal. It seems to be coming down a little with use. Any idea where the pressure readings are taken on 525's? Where might the restriction be? How easy to backflush the heat exchangers?

The pressure hose going to the gauge may just be clogged .....try to back flush that then see what happens...had similar problem

typicly the water pressure guage is tied in to the water pressure sender for the smart craft system. right side rear of the engine. it comes off the inlet side of the oil cooler back there on the engine. sometimes debri gets lodged in there which causes high readings. remove the inlet hose and the cover and back flush from outlet side of cooler. lok closely to see if there is any small pieces of debri that made its way thru the small water passage tubes within the cooler. you should be able to see thru the entire cooler.
