Alright...Im in a prop quandry...I am currently running 34" labbed Hydro p5x's @ about 16-17% slip @ WOT on whipple charged 525's. Just put on IMCO 2" shorties and am thinking about switching to P5's (15.5"dia) or P5 Plus (16"dia)...prob start with 30" or 32" pitch.... Would even consider H6's or Herring's if that would be the right move. Boat is currently running high 90's and has seen 100 a couple times. I figured that I have a little room to play with given that my slip is a little higher than I would like to see. Thoughts....comments????

When I was at the factory they were putting on Maximus 35p x 15-5/8" . I also just put on imco 2" shorties last friday on my 38' with 525's and I am playing with my prop's too. Just sent my maximus back to merc to fine tune..... How do you like the whipple's?

Honestly, had several issues with them. First was an overheating problem that made coolant puke from the resivoir tank. That was fixed by sea strainers and we are in the process of putting bigger 700SC heat excangers on. Next, was a faulty wiring harness on the port motor which caught on fire with me, my wife and 250 gal of fuel....that was fun. Now it is eating blower belts on the port motor. The HP Gains (750 per side) are awesome and the increase in top end and midrange is VERY impressive....just would have liked to have a little better customer service from Whipple.....OK I'll be honest, they (Whipple) were HORRIBLE to work with.

Wow! Sorry to hear that! I have heard that about whipple.... I hear that Arizona speed and marine are good people to deal with for whipples. How do the engines run ideal, etc. ....? I have been thinking about putting some on mine......

They run...pull and idle great!!! Once we get all the bugs worked out of it it should be fine.....I hope. Ive heard that ASM is very good to work with as well.....however the shop that installed the blowers was not the issue.....it was Whipples willingness to help and trouble shoot and their customer service after the sale that was VERY dissapointing.

i dont think the 16" diameter hydros will fit under the shorty units, better check. and if you were running 34's you may need more pitch. i would say 35's maybe.
sounds as if you have alot of slip. what ratio are your drives?

1.5:1....The problem is that the 34" p5x's I am currently running (which have been labbed, cupped and had a 1/2" flared hub extension installed by Hydro) are not allowing me to turn the 5700rpm that I am shooting for....on average I am spinning 5450-5500 @ WOT. So I would imagine that 35's would reduce RPM's even more?????

the herrings will kill your acceleration and mid range response, but will probably be the fastest. 35 5 bld max's should handle the chore. if you remove the ring you ll free up rpm, but may increase the slip. but they are a good set of props.

the p6's are really not a favorite of mine as they tend to induce chine walk.

Thank you very much for the input....Im a little confused though in Hydro's suggestion to use P5x's in our application. Their website clearly states that P5x's are intended for boats that do not have "natural bow lift and non-stepped hulls"...this is defininanlty not indicitive of a Fountian. The site then goes on to say that p5's/p5+'s are the choice for stepped hulls with good natural bow lift....aren't these the props I should be running???? I have formed a relationship with Hydro over the last 10 years...As you can see I am kinda partial to them. By the way....the hub ring was installed because we were @ about 20% slip prior to the ring/re-cupping of the 34's.....wierd I know.

the regular p5's are nice wheels. i would try those if you could. they are pretty good out of the whole but faster than the max upstairs. the added length on the hub helps with wash off the blades on the more cleaver style blades such as hydro p5 and p6 or herrings. . good prop though. not really weird,
