New Member with a question

Hey all, I am posting here to get some input on a boat i am interested in purchasing. I have been boating most of my life and have always wanted a Fountain.

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1996 Fountain 27' fever. The boat appears to be very well maintained by the owner and he takes obvious pride in it.

Is there anything i should pay close attention to with this model boat and what is your experience to them.

Thank you

Congrats.....very fun boats. Make sure the motor has been cared for and the bravo drive has been serviced regularly. If its a 415hp you should be around 67-69 mph on gps. Look for stress cracks in the bilge....not that thats an issue, but check never the less. Last, but not least.....have fun.

Great boat, I had one. However, the single engine lacks the
hole shot power to for a quick push over and quick plain
especially when you have a couple of 200 pound people in the
back seats.

thirdgen327 07-08-2007 04:57 PM

Well, I bought the boat and I love it. The engine is a fresh 502 mpi with alittle work. It has Cmi Headers and the boat sounds sick. I really like the way it handles compared to my smaller boat.

I do have one issue though. I take my little guy (17 months) out with me on all of my boats and there is really no good cover for him. The birth is ok, but it gets pretty warm. Now dont laugh, but have any of you put a ... Cough... Bimini top on one of these boats?

What do you think, and if you have done it , how did it look and are you happy with it. I figure I would only use it while rafted up and not while underway.

Thanks

Buy an Anchor shade to use while parked....It goes up easy and stores in the v-berth. check boaters world online.

thirdgen327 07-08-2007 06:21 PM

Thats perfect! Thank you

Downtown42 07-08-2007 06:57 PM

congrats on the boat! post some pix!

Carder 07-08-2007 07:23 PM

We have a bimini with full Igenglass front/sides/back for camping. Since my little man was one, we boated exclusively with the Bimini up to protect him. We could run about 60 without it failing, and he is skin cancer free thanks to it.

Thanks for the post's , I definately want to keep my son safe from the sun and heat. I am going to get some good cover for it asap. He just loves being out there and I dont want it to come with a price ( his health) .

I will also post some pics and a vid of the boat very soon. Glad to finally own a Fountain!

Thanks again.

is this the 27 from triton??? If so let me know Im very familiar with the boat.

bcfountain 07-09-2007 03:30 PM

hey thirdgen327.i hope you are enjoying the 27.i have a 94,502mag,mpi.like other people have said, the 27 s are alittle slow to plan.i have been told because of the high x-dim.what kind of speed are you seeing.i just ordered a anchor shade for mine.cheaper and looks better i think.enjoy and wecome to the famliy.

thirdgen327 07-09-2007 06:50 PM

BCFountain, I am enjoying the boat very much. I havent run it too hard , but saw high 60's on gps just playing around. (my son was on board). I am going to go with the anchor shade , because i dont feel right mounting a bimini on it.

LILREDBOAT, Triton? I'm not familiar with that , but I purchased the boat from a real good guy in SC if that gets me close.

Thanks again.

lilredboat 07-10-2007 10:38 AM

o ok nevermind, friend of mine just sold a 27 that sounds very similar to yours but it was in MD at triton marina. You have any pics??

dykstra 07-10-2007 10:55 AM

congrats

thirdgen327 07-11-2007 04:52 PM

Picked up an anchor shade today from a local retailer for $149. Looks pretty nice and will make for some good shade.

I'm ready to go now!

Thanks again for the advice

gofastlvr 07-11-2007 06:54 PM

madorno1 07-14-2007 10:26 PM

Hi thirdgen327,
I also have been a fan of these boats since the early 90's. Just havent had the wallet to own one yet. You know you have to have goals in life and to have one of these in my driveway is one of my goals . I also would like to own a 27 or 29 and continue to save a little everyday. Where did you find it and why was he selling?
Congrats! ( Im jeolous)

fourplaydave69 07-15-2007 03:27 PM

Have 27

Madorno 1 I live about 40 miles from you. Have LOW hour 27 . e-mail me thanks David

madorno1 07-15-2007 09:31 PM

Hi David,
I think I drove through Andover once but usually when I go north from Boardman I use Rt 11 and head up to Ashtabula or northwest to Geneva. My Mother and Stepfather have a 28' Nordic and they were on lake Mosquito today. So do you like your 27? Where do you run it?

Tom

fourplaydave69 07-16-2007 04:53 AM

27 Fever

Tom, I have not taken it to Cortland. I took it several times to Conneaut Lake, which is way too small of lake. Lake Erie is the only way to go. Uaually put in at Geneva and run toward Cleveland. The only reason to sell is I have two other boats. I only have good things to say about Fountains. David

madorno1 07-16-2007 08:52 PM

David,
Not that I'm ready to buy one yet, but I would love to hear the particulars like color, power, hours etc.....any pictures?
Where did you buy it? If you bought it from National Marine, I heard he turned out to be a bad guy. Did you hear this?

Tom

fourplaydave69 07-17-2007 04:14 AM

Tom, I did get it from National Marine, but it was several years before the sky fell on him. The boat has the Teladega theme. PM me your email and will send folder. Just turned over 100 hrs. on hull and 16 hrs on HP500. David

madorno1 07-17-2007 10:32 PM

David,
I'm new to this site so I cant email or pm. My AOL email is [email protected] yes.....I picked that back in 1991 or 92, cant remember. Anyway, why did you have to change the engine with only 100hrs?

Tom

fourplaydave69 07-18-2007 03:22 PM

mo-power

The boat came from the factory with a plain jane 454. This should answer your question. Will send you photos. David

topterp21921 07-21-2007 12:45 PM

Hi lilredboat. I just bought a 27' Fever from tomes landing in port deposit. Is it the same one and if so do you have any info? Thanks.

lilredboat 07-21-2007 07:14 PM

not sure, I thaught it was sold at Triton, but I think its a 96 with CMI E tops, cam, heads redone, 502 Mag MPI all painted Merc blue. Purple graphics and neons inside I believe. Sound familiar??

topterp21921 07-25-2007 10:19 AM

Nah its probably not the same one. But I have recently noticed a blue 27' that Ive never seen out before.
