there were a couple issues with cabinetry and stowage bins on the older model's. fountain has since redesigned the cabin lay out to improve structual rigity and durability, while maintaining storage and improving openness.
the ride is very dry, stable, and comfortable. it does not ride the same as an old lead sled straight bottom.
i have had a few in some adequate ocean water with good result.
boat runs over 60 with 496's, maybe 62.
over 70 with 525's.
cruises around 45-48.
considering the cruise speeds and fuel economy i would suggest driving a couple other boats, sea ray, maybe a formula. then come drive a fountain and experience the difference.
as for trailering, it is not too bad, the beam slows you down and makes for being cautious, but all in all, not too bad at all.

good luck in your search.

Buddy has a 2006 with diesels. Great ride, lots of party room, nice interior. Now he did have some stupid trim problems when he got it, but they were warranty items and fixed by the dealer. It runs 55 or so with the diesels and cruises at 50, at 17 gallons per engine per hour.

BTW, he is looking to sell it for a faster boat.

I like the reggie cruisers as much as the next guy, but I gotta say that the eliminator sport cat would be my choice given the options. However, my lake is home to a fleet of sea-ray 40ish footers and a fountain cruiser would be in a class all its own too. Good luck.
