Who has 2inch shorter drives on a 2004-2007

I am looking at putting a set of 2 inch shorter lower units on a 2006 35 lightning with 525s and was wondering if anyone else was running this combination. The boat will go 91 right now box stock with 40 gal of fuel and one person on board. Thanks for the info. Matt

You might want to check with Fountain to see what your x-dim is. I would imagine that your x-dim is probably pretty high already. Are you having any problems getting on plane now? I know that my x-dim wasn't as high as the new boats are coming from the factory with. -2 shorties helped.

The X on the '06 35 Lightning I just purchased is at 19" on a 34" CL. When I called Fountain they said it was pretty agressive and said it might not be a good canadate for the short sportmasters. You think they would pick my set up 3-5 mph? Have you ever set a 35 up with 6 blade Herrings ?

My 01 35 Classic (single step) is now 18 3/4 with a -2 shortie. Fountain said that it would be in line with the new x-dim.

Hi Rebel Heart,
I have a 2000 35 Classic with HP500EFI's, single step.
I assume that your boat is the same or similar to mine, do you have HP500EFI's also? What props are you running? and what speeds did you get before, with the stock drives and what did the shorties do for you? How does the boat come up on a plane. Is it worth spending the money on this mod?
Thanks,
David

i have used the shorty drives on the 35 525 lightnings. i have also tried hydro p5's and p6's , as well as 6 bld herrings. depending on your set up, x dim. , gear ratio, laden weight, hours on engines , p5's were all around best for top end performance with out sacrificinf too much cruise or acceleration..

by example an 06 38 and an 06 35 , same power same ratio, same prop, the 38 accelerates faster. and is a couple clicks faster as well.

Would that be the Hydro P5? Or the P5X, on the 35 Lightning?

Also would you consider the 19" X on my boat, '06 35, to be fairly agressive? Thanks, Ragged

You Betch'a :D. '06 35 Lightning w/ 525's and 57 hrs. About one week old at this point, picked it up from East Coast Flightcraft in Middleton, MA. A great bunch of guys to deal with, and a great deal on the boat and trailer as well. Nicely equipted with the monster dash with chrome gauges and polished bezels, the polished billet controls, GPS recall speedo, the whole boat is done in a black and silver theme, even the embroidered logos are done in a silver metalic thread.
