New props- 2005--42 Ex/525 efi's

I got a new set of labbed 32P Bravo 1 props. I got a chance to run them last week. My stock props were 32P Bravo 1. Here is the before and after.
Stock 32P -- WOT 81mph @ 5000RPM's
Labbed 32P -- WOT 79.5 @ 5200RPM

Similar conditions, temp around 70 --1/2 load of fuel -- 2 people -- about 1 foot waves.

I picked up a couple of hundred RPM's but struggled to get the last few MPH @ top speed. Boat ran well, very similar in planing and cruise speeds and RPM's. Any ideas?

not labbed correctly for your boat?

I realize that salt water will be different but, I have seen the 42's with 525's do very well with a 1" spacer and 30 P5X's.
TxFountain here on OSO was getting 83.7 in the summer heat on Texoma. His boat had AC and Gen.

I like the 5 blade Maximus labbed. Boat is better all around. Talk 2 Monstaa.

not apples to apples but on my 42 with 600 Innovations I went from 4 blade 31 bravo 1's to 5 blade 29 Hydros and it works much better all around for me.

I am sure my selection isn't the best on the market but 5 blade props might be where to look.

Good luck;

Jay

I appreciate the info. I got the props for free and wanted to see if there was an improvement. I was curious what the results would be. If they worked out great. I still think the 5 blade is the way to go, but these were the right price. Might just have to sell or trade them.

I've have a pair of 28" Maximus' with a test run only. XR hubs. Plastic plugs are missing. Very cheap.

I think the 28's would be a little light for pitch. I think I would need around a 30P in a 5blade. I did take the boat out yesterday for a New Year's Eve run and with a light load of fuel, and 2 people in the boat we did get it up to 82mph with a little coaxing. Stayed around 5200 rpm.

The stock 32 Bravos turn 5400. The 28 Maximus run about 5200 on a 2004 38.

I have a pair of XR shaft 32p hydros for sale if you wanted to switch to hydromotives.

What motors were you running? What kind of price for the props. Why did they not work for you on the 38? PM me with the price and any other info.

I think 32p Hydros would be too much. With the 5 blades I think I need around a 30P.

A guy at my marina has a 2006 42 w/525's and 32P Bravo 1's and ran the same speed as yours does 82-83. He then tried a set of 34P Bravo 1's that were Lab finished by Mercury. His boat now runs 88-89mph!!
I was never in the boat but was told by numerous people that it does run that fast.
Just a thought.
I also have the same boat as you but mine is a 2007. I am thinking about trying that 34P Lab setup as well.

See, this is why prop setups are so confusing. All the experts, BBlade and Throttle Up say to go down a pitch or 2 depending on type of prop and number of blades. I am considering a 5B-28P Maximus set of props. Brent from BBlades has said in the prop section that they should work well. I know the more blades the more the prop will bite. I am wondering if a labbed 4Blade 34P is close to a 5Blade 28-30 in slip numbers. Let me know how it works for you. I would love to run in the mid to high 80's. My goal is to run 80 @ around 4900-5K RPM. If I get the 28P-5B I will post the numbers.

That's where I am at with the stock 32p B1. I can run around 75 or 76 without too much coaxing, but to get to 80 I have to get the trim way up(around 5) and no tabs. Like to have a little in reserve for the rough water. Sometimes you need a little tab to keep her level. I would like to be around 80 with that in reserve.

I see the Cig in the background, what did you test them on? What were the results?
