27 cockpit vs. 29 cockpit
 

Can't really find an answer in searching the old threads on here so I figured I would start a new. How does the cockpit compare in size in the 27 vs the 29? I am looking for more cockpit or "day space" as I like to call it then what I have currently. I was in a 29 at the CLT boat show and it seemed to have more room then I have currently and wanted to see if it is the same size in the 27.

Also, they run about 70 - 72 with an HO - correct?

I have seen a 29 with a 525SC take half of our lake to get on plane. I think a 29 w/ a single 496HO is a dog. If you want cockpit space maybe try looking at a 33 Baja. If you want to buy a performance boat make sure it is properly powered and propped. I apologize in advance if this thread comes across as being obnoxious. I am just sharing my opinion.

The 29 has an extra foot of room in between the bolsters and rear bench. Should just break 70 with the HO. There was a nice one with an HO for sale in the classifieds.....most of the single 29's have 500's or 525's....thats the way to go for sure.

Want to stay with a single screw - that keeps me in <29.

I should be a little more clear on my WOT question:

27 w/ HO = 70 - 72
29 w/ 525 = 76 - 78

Much bigger fuel tank in the 29.

I would buy this 27. Looks to be very clean.

27 with 496 will top out around 68

A 29 with a 496 will top out around 71 or 72

A 29 with a pair of 6.2's will hit around 74

A 29 with a 500 around 75 or so

A 29 with a 525 can pass 80 in the right conditions

A 29 has more room in the cockpit and in the cabin. Although a little heavier than a 27, it has a different bottom with a much bigger step and will run faster than a 27 with similar power, plus the 130 gallon gas tank vs the 50 gallon tank on a 27.

29 is wider and faster with the same power. However, if you can find a deal on a fast 27 it is worth it in my opinion. You wont spend much time in either cabin and the cockpit space is not that much different IMO.

The difference between the 27 and 29 cockpit is very noticable. The extra 12" between the back bench seat and front bolsters appears to be much more than 12" when you are in the boat. We have had both 27's and 29's and prefer the 29's hands down! The swim platform also has more room, maybe a couple of inches, but again, noticable. Some of the 29's had/have cupholders along the sides, between the front and back seats, and others don't ... just seems to be whether or not they drilled the hole for them at the factory. No rhyme or reason why some have them and some don't.

Regarding speed, I have several test performance sheets for 500 and 525 powered "new deck style" 29's. The 500s are all between 74 - 76 mph, and the 525EFI's are all between 76 - 78 mph. I have never saw any performance sheet for 525EFI that was 80 mph, but maybe some exist. The 600SCI boats only ran 81 - 83 mph! Could not imagine how long it would take for a 496 boat to get on plane. Our 500EFI 29 was slow to get on plane, and had significant bow rise, unless you really hammer the throttle, and I don't do that. Our 575SCI 29 planed almost instantly, but it had a 30P prop, too. Most 525EFI boats have 26 or 28P Bravo 1's and if you put 12 - 14% slip into a speed calculator, and subtract 1" pitch because of the way B1's list their pitch, you will see that 80+ mph is not in the cards unless "very special conditions" are present. Older 29's had X dimensions around 17", whereas the newer ones seem to all be around 19.5", so I would think that would help the speed numbers (less gearcase in the water to "drag").

I would buy another single engine 2002 or newer 29 in a heartbeat, probably with either a 525EFI, 575SCI or 600SCI, if I were in that market. We have had 3 different 29's: a 2000 with 500EFI that topped out at 73 mph, a 2002 with twin 6.2's that topped out at 71-72 mph (would not buy another one of them!) and a 2002 with 575SCI that ran right at 80, all speeds being GPS and on a lake with no current. Our 27 with carbed 500HP ran right at 76 but chine walked rather bad at that speed.

27 ho will run 68.5.....thats what i've gps'ed with two guys and very little gas. Same number that fountain quotes too. Perfect water and tail wind might get'cha another mph. There is some chine walk at times that fast.
