P-4............... Good lookin 10, is it an 89? What kind of power? I like the low wind farring, but, is'nt the wind at high speeds terrible in the face? I know with mine, over 100, all I hear is the wind!!!! Can't even hear the engines, and believe me, they're loud!

Thanks 10x,

It's an '86. Believe it or not, that's the same windshield frame that's on yours. I replaced the glass and pop-riveted some 3/4" Starboard in it's place. Kind of a poor man's race fairing. I looked around for a real one when I was setting it up to race, but at the time my only choice was to have a custom fairing built out of fiberglass, or modify the existing one. It's strong, and keeps the tech inspectors happy.

Wind noise isn't a problem with a helmet on. When I'm puttin' around in pleasure mode, I just crank up Pink Floyd on the headsets and the wind noise goes away.

It's got '98 HP500 carb motors, still running TRS. It will be a while before this boat see's 100. I've considered 3a's or 5's, but I'll loose the ability to use my Corsa switchable exhaust. I guess some sacrifices are inevitable, tho.

Again, sweet ride! Where do you run it?

Cheers,
Brian

Awsome boats!! I just don't understand all the
abuse Reggie (and his products) takes on this
sight.

Nothin more original lookin than the Merc fact blue. Love the purple drives and tabs. You must not leave the boat in the water for more than a day at a time. That is a REAL clean package!!!!!! I only leave mine in the water for sat nite, or if I have any fuel left on sunday, I'll use it monday and bring it home monday nite. I hate the way drives and tabs look after the boat stays in the water all summer. Did that when we had a Cigarette and it was brutal on the finish. I run mostly in lake Michigan, out of Diversy harbor, in Chicago. Belong to the COPS (Chicago Offshore Performance Squadron) which is run by Jack (cashbrain), great guy, definattly devoted to offshore boating. You should check out some of our runs, it's $50 per boat, and we have always had a helicopter that gets pretty good shots of all our boats. He has 2 cameramen that shoots stills, and a video of the whole event. Last summer we had a few members videoing from the bouts and the footage was better than expected. This year we'll have a few onboard cameras for even better footage. And yes, there will be a camera on our boat, maybe 2, one mounted over the hatch, filming forward and one on the dash filming backward. BTW, sat evening after the Chicago boat show, COPS is having a big party at one of the restaurant/clubs downtown. We also have a new Fountain dealer here just north of Chicago, around Waukegon, therefore Reggie Fountain and his son Wyatt will be at the show and after around 7pm they both will be hosting our COPS party till weeeee hours. It's gonna be a great nite, they're bring videos of all the new boats and racing projects. You should try to attend, you dont have to be a COPS member to get in. We are having one BIG room reserved for our party. If you are interested, or anyone else for that matter, don't hesitate to let me know, it's not a "closed" door party and there is gonna be alot of Fountain boys from the great lakes attending. Frank

She stays on the trailer in the garage. Occasionally, I'll leave it in the water if I'm partying somewhere, never more than 1-2 days. I'll do Lake Cumberland once a year, and leave it floating for a week or so, but the water there is crystal clean. Unlike our Great Lakes.

The Chicago COPS run sounds like a blast. I always liked partying in Chicago, but have never had a boat there. One night (a LONG time ago) I was at the Baja Beach Club when a 42' Baja Force rolled in. The Merc factory guys were on board, delivering it to a customer. They had just rigged it with Lamborguini V12's. Powerboat had just done a spread on it, again, a long time ago. Fun night.

Do you have details? Dates? 50 bucks is awesome - hell you can't do anything on a boat for $50 these days. With the current stuff going on with offshore racing, I'm going to sit most of this season out. Sponsors are drying up, and my home series just bailed from APBA. If anything, I might do 1-2 National races in P-class, just to keep the boat's name out there. So that frees up much time to play. Count me in.

Another pic. This one made the front page of the sports section the following day, as my wife was standing next to the GR Press photographer when she snapped this, and gave him the story.

Grand Haven season finale... stbd drive thumping to beat the band... soaked thru to the underwear from stuffing it on the back straightaway... checkered flag in hand. I even beat the current P4 APBA World Champion that day.

Life is Good.

Brian.......The boat show is this weekend, it's held at the McCormack place on Lake Shore dr. on the lakefront, where Meigs airfield used to be. I like that 3 man bolster you have. Is it factory option update? Does the center come out? That's what I want to do to ours this winter, just trying to get some ideas. BTW, GREAT pics!!! I spoke to Jack this morning and he told me I can invite as many people as I want to this event. You could call him and he can give you some of the details. His cell # is 708 209 8301 and tell him for spoke to Frank, I told him we spoke. If you can't reach him, my home # is 708 579 5434 and I'm usually home after 4:30 / 5:00. Hope we get to meet. Frank

This weekend?? Hmmm, might have to see if I can rearrange my schedule. Originally had plans to ride my sled this weekend. I'll have to get back on that one.

The center seat was a custom job, that's my seat while racing. I took a plate of 5" x 1/4" aluminum and tied the two bolsters together. Powder coated it white.

Make sure the bolsters are bolted down and to the insides of the cockpit real tight. The padded part of the seat was done by my upholstery guy, and has a plywood frame that screws to the plate. I weigh about 210, and it's a tight fit, but solid.

To remove, just unscrew the grab handles, slide it out, and screw the handles back on. 10 mins, tops.

Here's some pics for details...

Brian......... Do you still have a cabin? How do you get in it , or down underneath? It looks like you closed off the opening where the sliding door is.

10x, I still have a cabin. The dash panel was extended across to give the throttleman and navigator controls, and more importantly, handles! It hinges up for access below. Another King Starboard project.

US1, what loops on drive caps?

Hey Brian
What material did you use to replace the windshield?

I picked her up out of Cincinatti, Ohio last month. It was advertised on a Thurs, had cash Fri. morning, and was on the road Friday night. I drove 1100 miles and picked her up first thing Sunday morning. I was back home the following morning. What a Friggin Ride!!!
Anyway, she dosent have engines, and only came with Coned bravo drive housings and most components of the Latham steering. All brand new white dash, Gaffrig Guages and throttles. Hull is in really great shape from being a river runner all her life, but does have some bottom scrapes form branches in the water etc. I am in a huge need of engines, so if you guys know of any sweet deals, please let me know. My preference is a pair of fully dressed HP 500's with about 200 to 300 hrs. I really want to get her on the water this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
