White wind screen????
I noticed a few of you have the white wind screen on your boats. Did you all have it come from Fountain like that?? Did you add it?? Or is their any after market shops that offer them??
Thanks WILL |
Mine came with. And I like to think of it as a 'Race Fairing'.
New picture below |
Mine is an F1 boat so it came from the factory with the wind screen.
|
I plan to have my winscreen painted white at the end of this coming summer. The fairing from Fountain is like 4k!!

I looked in the phonebook under "plastics" found this place about 10 miles from me that makes plexiglass display cases, some quite small for jewelry others quite large for greeting cards, said "yeah we do some stuff for boats, people break off their doors going iinto the cabin and we make them new ones, things like that." I showed him a picture of the boat and told him the windshield is just three flat pieces, he said "easy" The price is going to depend on the material (he will have to see it to be sure) and if he can get all the pieces cut out of one sheet. I'll keep you posted but I think were looking at 3-400 bucks depending on if I want to do the drilling or not. I also want to do the whiteout treatment on my glove box and cabin door and I told him they have curves, he said "yeah we do curves, as long as your piece is in good shape and will fit in our oven no problem, some people bring in pieces that are all broken, makes it kind of hard." Too bad my boat is buried away in storage, I have to make arrangements for access but Ithink I'll go up and grab the glovebox door and the cabin door, I'll keep you posted. Doug

Doug,
I have been calling around to places also, the two side pieces are no problem, However the front is curved and can't find a place to take the challange. If I cannot do it for less than a grand I'tll just leave it and wait until I buy another boat. I think a place in NJ makes the smoked acrylic for Fountain, I bet they could do it. WILL |
I'm not positive, but I think the race fairings are actually aluminum, not acrylic.
|
27- Do you have the "lip''?, If not, I called the factory spoke to the parts guy and he said the windshields are flat when their made and curve when they are installed on the boat. I know on mine the curve isnt very radical for a relativley long narrow piece.
|
Twin29,
Yea mine has the lip on the top, however I really don't care if I had one w/out the lip. However where the front piece meets the boat that is curved also, their is no way it just bends into place on mine, if has to be heated and molded. Look at USA 1 Fountains photo above and you can see how it bends. WILL |
One idea that was mentioned and works is to have it painted. My old boat was a Baja Sport that had the windshield of the same material. I had a corvette guy color code the gelcoat, then painted the screen to match. It was like 300 on that boat, my new one will probably be about the same. They use paint that has allot of flex agent in it, and some kind of self etching primer that keeps it from falling off.

Midnightrider,
Good idea but I don't want to mess up the original, incase the next owner would want to put it back. Thanks though |
The windsheilds w/o the deflector lip are very easily made from flat material. They don't need to be heated and bent. The curve is gradual enough that you just start at one end and work to the other side. I've done 2 others that have had a tighter bend with no problems. When they are cut out, they are actually shaped like a saging 8 foot 2x4, not a straight rectangle. I believe 27FOUNTAIN did his a while ago. See if he chimes in.
Will, course the easiest and cheapest route to get the same look would simple to get white decal sheet from a local detail/lettering shop and just cover the whole thing. And then peel it off when ready to sell. Just a thought. Jana, you are correct. The fairings are indeed aluminum. The sides are just bent at a 90 along the top for mounting the vinyl wrapped trim, with the front having an aluminum tube welded along the top for the support. Also trimed out. The fairing would actually be very easy the make also. Same concept as the windshield for the bend. A sheet metal shop could do it with ease. Only thing I'm not sure on is if they make these as 1 pc. from Alum. rolls, or if they weld at the corners in order to use standard 4x8 sheets. |

US 1 Fountain
I just tried to e-mail 27 FOUNTAIN to get his input. So you think as lond as I cut a flat piece it will bend into place? HUMMMMM I wonder. WILL |
Yes. Like I said, I've done 2 others that were tighter bends than the Fountains. I'm not saying they will just lay into shape naturally. I would make a full posterboard pattern of your original sheild while it is still on the boat and is held in shape.
Now another thought. Are they held on by sheet metal screws or are they thru bolted? I don't know. 27 FOUNTAIN will have your answers. |
I believe they are Sheet metal screws, except where the sides meet the front, that is through bolted (weird shape screw and nut) I think I wiill make a cardboard cut out tonight and get the size of the front piece. Havent Heard from 27 FOUNTAIN, Guess I will post in Gen Dis. to get him.

27 Fountain, check your email.
Jerry, my windshield was through bolted, so you have to drop the head liner, the side glass are just screwed. |
Thanks Charles for responding.
Now, since I haven't done a Fountain w/shield. You recall how much of a bow difference there was from the corners to the center of the windshield when laid out flat, and did you heat yours? Just want to know if I need to eat my words. |
27Fountain,
I think Back 4 More used white sign vinyl on all of his black plexi. Check out the steering wheel post for the picture of his boat. You can see the cabin door is still black. That might be an alternative for you. Dan |
