Check the short hose going through the bell housing. Had the same problem last year. Took a week to find it. Once on plane the pump will pull a suction on colapse the hose and we only had 1-2 psi pressure. Back at idle the boat would cool off. Good Luck

Thanks!
well based on the thread responses and discussion with Tony at Fountain, I rolled back underneath yesterday and inspected closely. The water hose is twisted and folded like a garden hose. Goes into repair next week. Hopefully mid next week I'll know if everything is good.
Thanks alot to everyone for your advice. I'll post next week with the results.

A good trick is to pull the water in hose off the sea water pump and squirt a pretty good amount of dish soap in there. That way when you start, at idle, you see lots of bubbles in the water coming from the exhaust and you know you're getting good circulation.......just don't let any environmentalists see you do this. This is not an accurate test whatsoever, but at least you'll know you're getting circulation.
To me, your problem sounds like it stems from the drive pickups or from the span from the transom to the raw water pump.
