2000 32ft fountain fever

Is there a safety valve in the block if the remote oil filter clogs up? My oil temperature running 280 degrees to 300 degrees when it is running hard, the oil pressure is 20lbs.

thanks for your help,
Giddy

She runs hard for about 10 to 15 minutes. After backing off to idle, the red light shuts off, and temp came down 5 to 10 degrees and still running hot (300 degrees).
Thank You

Something is not right. My boat never gets above 190* on the oil. Maybe check the oil cooler to make sure there is no debris in there.

I would check two things

1. Are your remote filter hose reversed on the block?
2. Has you oil filter internally collapsed blocking oil passage?

If it is neither of these I would try a different type of filter and see if anything changes. I had something similar happen to me on my old motor when I used a different brand oil filter. Unfortunately, when the motor got hot I lost a rod bearing and it plugged a crank journal causing a huge problem as you can imagine.

My 29 did that because a reversion issue had just started. Water was in the oil and caused the filter to collapse. Check your oil for milkshake.

Oils too hot. Try the bigger oil cooler.

Yours is the 10 inch cooler (SKP807371T1).

Get the 13 inch cooler (OCL807372T).

30% more cooling is a lot. Mercruiser changed to the longer one soon after your engines.

I have and am haveing the same problem as you I have changed all the sending units cleaned the cooler and whatever else I can think of I really believe it is a bad guage the water temps run the same on both engines and the boat has lost zero power . The hottest I have seen is 280 and cools down very quickly so run her till she blows . lol good luck
