I have always been told that the side by side boat will be about 5-6 mph slower than a full staggered 42. That being said my 42 full stagger is running 650's and right at 90mph......so a 42 side by side with 650's will be in the 84-85mph range.

Give you a call later on Johnny, in meetings this morning til about lunch then give you a call.

i have a side by side 98 big step with 500hps right at 80 and there isnt but a 1-2 mph difference from mine to a staggered and i would think with 800hp you will be approaching 100 if not into the low 100's, one great thing about the side by sides if its a classic deck you gain 18inch of cockpit space

100 Is What I Was Thinking.

Beak Boater told me Fountain had a brand new 42 with 700's and 6 drives at the Jammin on the James Poker Run and it ran right at a 100.

I think she'll go faster than 100 based on those numbers if its really 2 X 800HP. Unless the 6 Drives are that big of a penalty.

So a 1998 Classic would be the same top cap and of my 1993, but the bottom is newer with a step? Is the engine hatch smaller to make up the 18" on a side by side or the helm moved forward?

I've also noticed NADA shows the 1998 3" narrower and 8,800 comparted to my triple at 10,400. Hows will the ride difference compare at LOTO?

your triple is the same as a staggered you give up the 18" in the engine bay forward. My side by side has a smaller sun pad and my rear seat sits 18in further back from the front seats than your rear seat. i also believe that in the staggered and triple boats the front seats are a little closer to the dash then the side by sides. so your deck is the same deck as a executioner because there all staggereds. i dont believe there is any width difference between the early years and the later years, i believe there all 8'6" whether its a classic deck, lighting and executioner. which by the way the classic decks were called lightning until 98 when the tall winshield came into play then they called them lightning and the old lightning classic decks. when they brought the classic deck back in 2003'ish they called them executioner. As far as ride is concerned having owned both a straight bottom 42 and the step bottom the step rides smoother at speed and leveler allowing the bow to cut through the ways, and it handles LOTO just fine as im sure your triple does. the trips have a whoo factor at the docks but for the few time of top end runs you give up to much i think, i also think that the triple may be a little to heavey in the ass end. ive been in a few but havent spent enough time driving one to really get a feel for them.

Hey Later, do you have any cockpits pics of your boat? I like the extra room you get with the side by side set up, is this rare? (98 Big step w/side by sides), I thought most were stagg?

Went and looked at one yesterday. Guy said it was a 8.5 I'd hit it at a 4. Never been in salt, just needed a few things. Cuddy door was broke, looked like salt water damage to me, HIN # was on the boat twice couldn't see either and I've never seen a Myco in this shape before.
