35 project

Does any one here on oso have any idea what it would cost , how hard , and what would I gain with merc 700's in a mint 35 single step . the boat has 525sc's with ext boxes and xz drives.

Don't know how much it would cost, but it sure would be a bad ass boat!

RaggedEdge 09-05-2008 04:34 PM

The 525 sc set up should be mid 80s now, I would think low/mid 90s with the 700s. Might need to upgrade to XRs as well. Should be a fun package. But would it be worth the cost of the Merc motors? Only you can make that call. There are ways to get more out of your 525s, an intercooler and a little boost upgrade will put you around 600hp and just as reliable as stock. Ran a pair that way myself for six seasons and they are still going 3 seasons later.

700's

Carney, you should ask Diggindeep or (keepdiggin) he just got through with his 35 signature,he really like the way it performs now. Rick..

Spend a little more time and money getting your current package dialed and matched to perform before going the 700 route. You are only a couple mods from 700 now, and that would allow you to re-configure to get things matched better.
If you do not want to do that, sell what you have and buy a 700 boat, I bet you end up spending the same money anyway.
Either way, I'll pull back and wait for ya !!!:party-smiley-004:

Over $150K, very hard as it's never been done, and it would be a 100+ mph boat.

I would inves in a new35 ICBM. There is jut too much difference between those two boats that it make sense to use that much money on the single step 35. I have driven both, and they are both extremely nice boats, but quite different. Itwould be easier to get your money back with the new boat. I have sold both, and both customers are very happy. I just think the new boat is so much MORE BOAT. And much better in rough seas. You will not believe it befor you have driven one. The balance cannot be better. It runs 85 mph with 496 HOs and 104 with 600s. 525 runs almost as fast!

but the sleekness of the old version is the "real Fountain" !!! And a much more "playboy cabin interior" HAHAHAHA

Call Scott Shogren www.chicagofountain.com he has experience with a mid 90's 35 (single step??) with big power (Keith Eickert blower motors & SSM drives). I also think you will be much happier with the new full stagger boat. I would bet that you will spend about the same money on the old boat.

Hope this helps

Do not be penny wise and dollar foolish. If you are talking about installing Mercury 700's & NXT, get a newer 35 Lightning with full staggered Mercury 525EFI and you will run 100MPH and save on insurance not to mention better resale value. if you are putting aftermarket 700's in, and keeping bravo drives, beware in rough water, you will be replacing bravos with that HP. We recently re-rigged a 35X (single step), pulling 500EFI's out and installing 525EFI's, the boat went from 84mph to 90mph.
