Height of new Lightning hulls....
 

Hi, I know Fountain raised the height of the hullsides on the 42 and 47 (maybe also th e 35 and 38) in around, year 2005. I know this has some benefits, but I think the older boats look much better when they are so low that the rub rail almost tuches the water.... Do you know of any PROBLEMS with the old low hulls?? (What to pay extra attention to on used boats before 2005). I did see a 47 this summer with 13 persons in it and full tanks. The rub rail was in contact with the water. When I look at the boat and transome now, the exhaust pipes must have been almost under water... It seems a little scary if the water is so close to the top of the elbow raisers. The boat has 525s and Bravo outdrives.

Never any problems with water in the exhaust. The tips are actually above water.

aside from beak boats sinking at the dock like the pib thread??

US1, those holes is te outlet for the engine room fans!! One possible situation, would be if the boat is heavily loaded, and someone gives much throttle in reverse with two engines while the third one is shut off... What happens then? That is in fact a possible situation if one of the engines won't start. (I experienced this my self as oine crank sensore failed) When I open up the flappers, the water"locks" inside the tails some of them is broken.

Wonder if some one has had any problems with this? for example with triple six drives and heavy engines...

He knows that....its his boat. The exhaust tips under the swim platform are still above the water line while sitting.
