Raylar HO 600 - WOW!

Just got my HO 600 installed and running some time ago. Man!! This engine screams. Boat is running 81.5 MPH but still need prop work. Gotta start all over with that but I’m loving this motor. For anyone thinking of upgrading from a 496, you should give Raylar Engine serious consideration. The 550 is looking very promising as well.

I’ll come back and fill in the details as soon as possible (RPM, Speeds, etc).

Thanks Ray for everything you guys did!
Jason

Congrats!! That's awesome. What power/speeds were you running before the upgrade? I had a '03 27' w/ 496HO that I bought new; would run 70-72 GPS with low fuel and just me on board in cooler weather. I've been considering the 600's as an upgrade to the HP500 carb's in my 2000 38'. Would love to know your thoughts and any info you have on pricing.

My first thought is to tell you to call Ray right away! I was a strong 77mph before but I have probably another 2mph when I get the right prop. Right now I've seen 81.5mph but again we're expecting somewhere around high 82 closer to 83mph. That engine is sweet!

Plus, if you don't wait until "next season" you won't have such a long delay in getting parts from various people and cutting into your boat time. I did not read where you are located but too many guys wait until they want to use the boat and then try to upgrade it at the same time. This doesn't work and there are many out there that would agree.

Take your time, do it right, and talk to Raylar before making any decisions. My experiences with them have been top notch to say the least...

There are so many details to this that I can't honestly give you what I would consider a "complete" answer to your question but things like getting the very best parts available is what sticks in my head while we buildtmine. No corners were cut from top to bottom. Keep in mind that the HO600 is not just another "add on" type kit to a 496. It is a built engine from bottom up with 600 HP in the foresight from beginning to the very end. The different attitudes of the same boat with my same props is amazing to me. There is a guy on this site some where that is selling his 600's to get the 550's or something like that. Have Ray give you some references. The sooner you get on it the sooner you can experince what I'm seeing.

Either way, enjoy your boat!!

Thanks for the info. I'll talk to Ray.

You were running 77mph in a 2003 27' Fever w/ a stock 496HO???? DAMN!! Most of the others around when I bought mine new were running 69-70 in the performance report. What's the secret?

Low 80's is where I'd like to get my 27. How does it handle, I've heard they can be a handfull at about 85.

You know I'm not sure yet. I felt just a tiny bit of keel roll the other day but I was driving on my own wake from last pass and there was another boat out there. Not sure if it was due to speed just yet.

I noticed that I could steer out of it easily though just jerkin' the wheel about an inch or so.

Will definately let you know if it's a problem. The proping is always the most cumbersome, time consuming part of the upgrade I think.

Awesome!! Thanks a lot. I'm waiting on a prop from BBlades. The 5 blade maximus has a way fast cruise with low rpm but boat stays bow heavy. it's been my experience that 4 blades work on this boat. I will certainly let you know.

Thanks again,
Jason
