Ran 109.0 mph yesterday

The boat felt great. Ran 100mph @ 5,000 rpm's with the drives trimmed out 1/4-click (1-click is WOT) and 109.0 as soon as I trimmed it out.

The conditions were not the best for a high speed run; 20mph winds, 90* air tem, 80* water, 83% humidity, 3/4 tanks (~150 gallons), 653' elevation in fresh water, two people including myself, full coolers and everything else I carry during the summer. There was definetly more speed on the table, as soon as I trimmed the drives, I ran out of lake. Stay tuned :ernaehrung004:

Don't mind the tach's, this Livorsi prop slip guage is off compared to the SmartCraft - not sure what it was.

Feels like 2-4, but I am not sure how close I was the limiter. Literally pushed the sticks WOT, bumped the trim, hit 109 and had to back it down.

It throws a mean rooster tail. This is crusing at ~55 mph with the drives tucked all the way in.

Always loved looking at the rooster tails.

I think this boat was originally built to Reggie Jr's specs. It has odd-ball prop sizes and x-dimensions dimentions compared to several others I have seen. It seems to be faster as well.

It is the boat in the Fountain video under 42 Lighting on the website.

I have no doubt that it will run 110, just need to get out in the morning before the lake gets congested. There was a lot of traffic on Sunday. LOL, mid-October - that is why I don't live in CT any more.

What are you getting out of your boat with the 800's?

Yamaha 225 10-14-2008 11:32 AM

Congratulaions!! The boat looks really really clean and nice! I think you have got one hell of a package there.

42 Fountain... Worlds Fastest Vee, perfectly balanced, fast and a fun boat to drive.
Merc 700s.... Biggest engine with hydraulic lifters = hundreds of trouble free houres. Fill her up and run forever.
Six Drives.... drive crazy all day long, best looks of all propulsion systems in my opinion.

All in all, maybe the best compromize for most fun, performance and reliability. THE BEST BOAT IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!!!!!

Can I get your e-mail adress? I have used a picture of this boat (at least, I think it is this one) in an advertizement previously this year. I can e-mail it to you!

Erik

You must be a lucky man! I also love roosters ;-))

Nice boat and stellars numbers. :D

Just curious, what rpm's was the smartcraft system reading? I know the 700's go to 5200, but your tach says 5900? Does the smartcraft give a speed reading as well?

Nice boat :ernaehrung004:

Turbojack 10-14-2008 08:57 PM

When we were coming back from Johnny Fins I saw you coming towards us. All I could see was a large rooster tail. Thought it was a jet boat, until you got closer. As you went by I could not believe all of the water you were throwing up & only crusing.

Actually, the 700's go to 5,350 from the factory. I am certain the speed is correct because the Livorsi gauge has its own GPS antena and so does my Northstar GPS. The Northstar has a SmartCraft interface and the Livorsi gauge does not. It relies on the tack feed much like standard analog guages and needs to be fine tuned for accuracy, duration of display, etc. Just have not had the time to work on it.

Yes, that was us. The #6's throw a monster tail at crusing speed and that is with the drives all the in, which happens to be the most efficient setting for that speed. 98% of the time I cruise at 50mph, which is 2,600-2,650 rpm's and it shows 19-20 gallons per hour per side on the SmartCraft.

It is pretty cool, because I can fine tune engine speed, trim and tabs while tracking the fuel meters to maximize my fuel efficiency at any given speed. 50 mph works well on Travis.

BAJA WILL 10-15-2008 11:22 AM

Was out in a 42 w/ 700's about a month ago was a blast. Ours had the NXT gimbals, #six drives, had it to 104, but our conditions were mch rougher that day. Love the tail.

Great numbers for a 42, what props are you spinning? Our 38/700 boat is running 6 blade Herrings. Saw Wyatt Fountain at the Jammin on the James poker run with a 42/700 boat that had 5 blade Merc props. Wyatts 42 was very fast also.

aTX427 10-15-2008 04:31 PM

I am running 6 blade Herring's from the factory. There are five other Fountains on our lake with 700's - four 42's and one 38. All but one of the 42's have five blades. Mine is a 2007 with the old cabin, where all the rest have the new cabin. Supposedly the old cabin is ~700lbs lighter than the new cabin interior. The tv-berth is also WAY bigger and we do a lot of overnights aboard, so that's nice.

And the old interior is also much more "playboy" with the all white leather !!!!!!!!!!!

aTX427 10-15-2008 05:47 PM

They are for sure, but they are lighter and much bigger inside. Luckily I have a friend in the business who is going to update the counter top with a nice piece of Corian much like the 35 Lightnings were from 2004-2005.

adk61 12-21-2009 01:31 PM

just goes to show ya that a ventilated hull works like a charm!! that'll be my next adventure!!! once i win the lotto that is... lol

aTX427 12-21-2009 02:25 PM

Definetely, we have gone 110 on the rev limiters and 106 with topped off tanks, four people, coolers, etc in the middle of summer. There is probably another 4-5mph on the table, but I would rather have the accelleration. It pulls hard enough through the midrange that the digital speedo jumps by 5-7mph at a time.

I love my 42 as well and you can't beat the ride and predictability of the hull at high speed. Put some #6's back there and you may have the perfect V-Hull for sure!
