Will,

Bravo 1 drive let loose at 67 Hours. Like Jerry we baby the drive. Ease it up on plane and have not flown the boat. (Just Geist Lake in Indy so far). We searched for NOS early gears because of strength for the rebuild. Only have a few hours on the new drive at the end of the season. Looking at the IMCO Extreme for peace of mind if we head to the Great Lakes. Still eyeing F1 seriously, so I have not made a decision yet on investing extra dollars in the '27. Hint, hint rjcardinal.

rjcardinal 03-18-2002 08:35 PM

I get the hint Scott.

However with your boat being a 2000 with the whipple already on it I sure I cant afford it. My plan is to find a low hour '98 or so then add the whipple later after the intial shock of paying for a 50K+ boat wears off. In all the research I have done a 27 Fever with a Whipple properly set up seems like the perfect package. You seem to agree.

Thanks Mike,

I would like to talk to him. Sounds like a great boat. You can either ask him what he wants for the boat for me or give him my email address.

Thanks again,

Ron

502 Mag w/ 1.36 Bravo 1

I just joined these forums and have acquired some outstanding ideas and information in the few days I have been reviewing your comments.

Along the lines of performance issues with 27s, I just bought my first Fountain. A '91 Fever w/502 Mag Bravo 1. In trying to properly prop the boat I came across the issue that apparently the 91 Bravo 1s on the boat are 1.36 ratio vs the common 1.5s thereafter. The boat came with a 24 4 blade Intimidator on an absolutely stock 502. Any of you guys (or ladies) have any input on this???

INDY27 03-23-2002 07:13 AM

rjcardinal,
I have a 96 27 Fever,502 mpi, purple & blue Indy graphics, professinally installed stage II Procharger at 5 lbs boost ,reprogrammed ecu,Stainless Marine exhaust, ext steering, drive shower, all Gaffrig gauges including boost and fuel pressure on purple bezels, white leather cabin,2 covers, custom 9 speaker 500+ watt stereo,Magnum custom steel trailer for step hull.Boat runs 84.1 at 5200 rpm on gps in light chop, currently have 29 rh hydro Qiv,I have tried left and right hand props and saw no speed difference but the boat is much more stable on the top end with a rh,also the boat leaned excessively with lh prop until it was trimmed all the way!I have tried about many different props ranging from a Bravo1 28 lh,30lh, 30rh,30rh cupped to a 31(84.1 gps),Hydromotive Q iv 26 rh,29 rh w/diffuser, 29rh no diffuser,31 lh and a few more I cannot remember!I looked at the Whipple but to use it a 12"HOLE had to be cut in the back seat for the blower pulley! Ask Dustin about it! Every one around here runs Procharger, NO problems! I have 177 hrs, about 25 w/ Procharger.Boat is a 9.5 on a scale of 10. Thinking about a cat and will be looking at 55k for my boat. Hope some of this helps!

US1 Fountain 03-23-2002 10:43 AM

Indy27, You have the 1.5 ratio?
Hows the getting on plain with the 29" hydro?
I'm turning a 27" for 84mph, but at higher rpms. Been thinking of trying a 28", and maybe even a Bravo prop. Affraid to put to big a prop on and torque the outdrive to pieces.

INDY27 03-23-2002 11:39 AM

US1 Fountain,
I have 1.5 ratio and she planes fine with the 29 Hyd. but with the Bravo 1 30 that was cupped to 31 it did not plane to good, neither did the 31 lh Hyd. I always baby it out of the hole and am careful never to jam the throttle under boost! I think as long as you dont abuse a Bravo you wont have any problems.

29Fever 04-01-2002 10:14 AM

Ron,

I like what Jana said. Keep your eyes open for a clean 29'. I too was in the same situation as you this time last year. Almost bought a 99' 27 with a 454 mag for mid 50s. For not much more (low 60s) I stumbled on a 98' 29 with a 500hp. Couldn't be happier with it. The 27' is a great boat, but I would definately prefer the 29'. I tow with a 5.4l Expedition. Could use a little more power, but it's not bad.

First Fountain Run

Now I am hooked for life!!!! I figured I take the liberty of sharing my first Fountain experience with you, mainly because none of my "sailing" friends appreciate the excitement, and perhaps some of you will. I hope...

I finally put my newly acquired (Feb. 16) '91, 27' Fever on the water on Sunday. My first performance boat. Although in a couple of formulas and scarabs over time, never had set foot on a Fountain. Needless to say, I bought one because they are just the best looking boats in the class and definitely trade top honors in all out permormance, quality, and overall satisfaction reputation.

Unbelievable adrenaline rush and performance! Took it out on Chesapeake Bay (kind of salty) with fairly solid chop. Abot 50 degrees on fairly cold water. That thing just cut right through most stuff cruising at over 50. It flew and handled unbelivably well for the shorter waterline. I guess since I have a bone stock 502 w/ 24 4 blade Hydromotive on what I think is a 1:36 Bravo 1, I was showing about 68 on the GPS at 4600-4700 rpm with the drive trimmed to about 5.5. Full Tank, two 160 lb ea. on board. I am obviously amazed. I guess there could be a couple of miles compliments of the tide?! No problems getting on plane with just a litle cavitation on tight turning at lower speeds.

Bottom line, Fountains, for obvious reasons, rock the offshore performance arena. Reggie now has another fan for life..... This is, by far, the most adrenaline bang for the buck I ever spent!

Now???? If I could only squeeze an extra 400 rpm ???....... :D

BAJA WILL 04-02-2002 08:40 AM

Pmcrespo,

On the cavitating on turns, try bringing the drive in more on the turn, that should clean it up. If taking a hard turn at higher speed, I 'll bring the drive almost all the way in.

SELLERS BEWARE!!!

Sellers and Fountain owners beware and don't waste your time talking with this guy, he is a dreamer, wants to talk about buying a Fountain but when it comes down to it he bails. I know he has been calling all around the country talking with people. If he wanted one there are plenty for sale. Alot of people have responded to his questions but it was all a big WASTE OF TIME, he will be in the same boat (22 Scarab) so give it up.

rjcardinal 04-12-2002 10:36 PM

What the hell is going on here? I dont buy this guys boat so he gets pissed at me?

excursion droped the price of his boat from 52k to 45k because he was interested in another boat and I didnt bite and now he has his feelings hurt. I guess he missed the deal on his new boat but I called him and told him that I was not going to buy his boat. It was the least I could do after he emailed me and dropped the price of his boat. I thought I had done more than enough.

Anyway excursion, I am the proud owner of a 1999 27 Fever. I closed the deal yesterday and will recieve the boat next week. It is a much better boat in my opinion than yours.

SO YOU CAN JUST SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND QUIT TALKING TRASH.

Go cry to someone who cares.

Thanks to everybody on the Fountain forum for helping me with all the questions I had about the boat. I will post pics as soon as I get the boat.

Boy am I glad I didnt buy from this guy!

Ron

SURE

Can't wait to see it, now don't go take some picture's of the one down the street, and by the way I was just talking with a dealer that you e-mailed about a 27 yesterday, thats odd. Bring it to the Fountain get together in Washington NC. can't wait to see the boat that is better than mine when you never even saw it. No crybaby here, just don't want you to waste anyones time. But what are you going to do about that planning problem?

See you on the water.:D

rjcardinal 04-12-2002 11:27 PM

excursion,

Let it go man. Im sure someone will buy your boat one day.

You should find a different forum to cry on.

Ron

Dredgeking 04-13-2002 01:02 AM

excursion,

i don't kow any of the story between you two, but i spent 4 to 5 months looking at A LOT of boats before deciding on the one i bought. i just waited until i found something i really wanted. it's funny how we are about our boats. one little thing can make an excellent boat unappealing to someone else. i talked with A LOT of guys from the board who had boats for sale. i could have bought any one of a dozen great boats, but i chose the one i did. i'm sure rj just waited until he found the one that clicked. unless there is something much more to the story............RELAX.

Re: 27 Fever Info

I had a 97 27 with a hp 500 26 pitch. I sent it to Hydromotive and they pitched it down for me after asking a ton of questions on how i was going to use the boat....people..gas...location....ect....... worked great and i think they charged me around 100.00 plus shipping. i had a 24 pitch merc lab 4 blade that i used to put on if i had a load of people and a ton of gas. the hydro ran around 73...i own a 42 know but i still have days that i wish i still had the 27 back...what a great boat...one last comment...i have ALWAYS had extreme complements for hydromotive...they have always made me feel like a true customer. For the few props...."10" i have purchased they have taken the time to help me with every option...including recomending competitors props....

Yeah, yeah. You had your chance at a clean 35. I even had dad talked into taking your boat on trade and then selling it to me (after about a 100 hour trial period of course :D )

Steve,

Congrats on the new boat. Your boat is different than mine. I think your boat would be equal to a newer 29 footer.

Start another topic in this forum and ask your questions. Im sure you will get some answers. This topic is over 3 years old and about a different boat so you probably wont get much of a responce.

Good Luck

Ron
