27 fever prop choice

can any body tell me what size prop my 2007 27 fever -496 mag ho it curantly has 24p bravo 1 lh 1.50 drive max speed 67 but rev limiter beeping its brains out would a 26p be to high

Yamaha 225 10-14-2008 05:06 PM

If it is the stock propeller that came with the boat, it would not go in the rev limiter when new. The reason is most likely that the blades has been "laid back" (slightly less pitch). This has happened to me on two Fountain baots 29 & 35. I think 26" will be a bit heavy and give you a lot more time coming on plane. I suggest you get a prop guy to cup your blades at th right placees on the leading edge. Then you will have almost the same accelleration as before and the right rpms on top. It worked great for me. Also better bowlift and cruise speed on mid-throttle.

Do anyone know if 1,65:1 gear ratio with more pitch is a more common set-up on this package? It seems like Fountain has equipped alot of small engine boats with this. Can anyone explain the difference in te boats riding attitude with this change? Have always wondered about this.....

Try a hydromotive prop 23 pitch

Was your boat set up with right or left hand rotation?

sam edwards 10-15-2008 05:08 PM

drive rotation

l/h rotation

My `97 with the 500hp runs 74mph @ 5600 rpms, with a Bravo 1 24p L/H. Just bought a 26p Bravo 1, but haven`t had the time to compare?

Racerngr1 10-15-2008 07:28 PM

If I were you I would run a Hydromotive Quad 4 24 pitch. You can detune it if you need to a 23. The Q4 is pretty neutral as far as lifting is concerned, it's not a stern lifting prop, it's a very common prop on the Fountains. It's what I run on my 29 with a 500EFI. My .02!

you want peformance ? get a labbed 26 Bravo from BBLades.A labbed 26 will turn more RPM than a 26 non labbed.

I run 23 Hydromotive quad 4s on my stepped Fountain. Hydromotives were std. props on Fountains before a Fountain Mercury business merger. The 23 pitch Q4s have equivalent pitch to a Bravo 24 and generally run a little quicker on most Fountains but it sounds like you may need to go to a 24 or 25s to drop the RPMs. Call Hydromotive and they will let you try props to get the right one. I run 64-65 MPH @ 4950-5000 RPMs. Sounds like you'll need more pitch than what I am geeting from the 23s.Good luck!

I would highly recomend Brett @ BBlades. He can get you any brand prop you want but the difference is he's only interested in getting the right prop for that boat. You have the option of trying as many as you want and it's an affordable way to make the best decision.

He got over 4mph for me so far but it takes patience.

Good luck

My 1998 27 Fever with 415hp had a 24 Hydro, you should see right at 70mph

I had a 27 Fever 2001 model 500efi, ran 25 Hydro got 74gps, ran a 26 Hydro got like 75gps and was slow as chit getting on plane, also all mine were RH rotation so I had a nasty list to port.

ive tried a hydromotive 24 l/h 4 blade at the w end porpoised realy bad and was slower than the ground down b1 that came with the boat i matched it up to a new prop and its smaller some ones had the grinder on it to cover up dings in the blades maybe a new 24 bi is the answer also what is best l/h or r/h and why does it come with l/h from factory whats fastest ?

BAJA WILL 10-21-2008 02:35 PM

Sam,

The LH rotation the boat will ride more level. I always thought a RH was faster but I honestly don't have proof.:ernaehrung004:

bob_t 10-21-2008 03:25 PM

In our 29 with a 575SCi, the RH prop was ~ 1 mph faster (tried both RH and LH back-to-back), but the boat listed really hard to port with the RH prop, to the point that it frightened my friends and my wife. LH prop had much more level ride, especially when getting up on plane and just breaking over on plane. The ~ 1 mph could have been just the difference in props, though, too, since they were not labbed, but bone stock *new* B1 30p props. Boat we have now has a RH prop on it and I don't like it, I'm switching to LH prop even if I were to lose 2 mph!

So what boat was it with the list to port?? Single engine? You got my attention.

BAJA WILL 10-22-2008 09:36 AM

Mine was a single 2001 27 Fever, 500efi. and yes with RH prop it listed to port hard in mid range, top end, is fine. I swapped props back and forth, and felt the same that the RH was just a hair faster.

Just checked the shop, I have a 26 RH Hydro and a 26 LH Bravo, if anyone want them, I will let go for cheap.
