whipple chargers

Has anybody put a set of whipple chargers on their Fountain? I have a 98' 38 fever with HP 500's.

What kind of MPH gain?

What props did you switch to?

What other items did you need to purchase above and beyond the whipple charger kits?

Was it worth the investment?

Thank you in advance.

Brian

whipples on a fountain.......? Nope. Never been done. We are so fast already that they dont make nylon warm up suits that can hang on any faster.

I havent done one in a Fountain but we have in a bunch of other boats. If you have any questions feel free to call 281-326-4800

We put a set on a 2000 35 Lightning with 500 H.P. EFI's The boat went from 86 mph to 98 mph. What you notice first is the acceleration from the low end torque the Whipples make. Thats also what causes you to brake drives if you are not careful. We ran standard length gearcases, with Hydromotive props. Before Whipples, we ran a 30 Bravo 1 or a 28 Hydro. After we ran a 32 Bravo 1 or a 29 Hydromotive. They will have to remap you ECU's. We raised or rev-limiter to 5800 to let us spin a lower pitch prop. Dont know how many hrs on your motors, we had 110 when we installed them. Pulled the heads and changed head gaskets, then ended up doing a valve job and changed springs also. Dont know if the 500 H.P.s had inconel exhaust valves or not but its something you may want to consider if they didnt have them with the added heat from a blower, especially with iron heads. Since my original goal was 100 mph, whos isnt? and I didnt make it, the next year we stroked it to 540, and added Aluminum AFR heads. Went 104 mph. Standard length gearcase and non labbed props. Dustin Whipple, is on OSO he would be the one to talk to about your combination. I think he is Whipple Charged send him a priviate message or email. He was a ton of help to me. Also Mark Boos(sp) I think he is in LA. was alot of help also, cant remember his business name. Good luck have fun.........I would get a spare drive also.

look into vortech's as well. I put them on my '01 35' and went from about 83-84 to 99 with huffers and a new camshaft. It would easily pass 100 but I'm blowing out the props and the boat is chine walking like a mother! I'm probably getting new drives and lowers but the acceleration is phenomenal. I went from 30" b1 to 31 maximus. Had a local guy here in Nashville remap the ECU's and I have been really pleased.

Thank you for all the info guys. I have carbs on my 500's. Did you guys add headers to your motors? Yeah I know I better stock up on drives if I do this. Did you have to change your couplers?

Ours were 500 HP EFI's so they already had CMI exhaust. Used the stock coupler. Never had a problem with that. Really didnt have a problem with drives once we got it sorted out. Trying to get on plane and using full throttle is a no-no, and jumping the boat out of the water and not pulling back on the throttles especially if you are under boost, with pretty much turn a drive to junk also. But if you are easy on the throttle getting on plane, and are not running the boat in rough water alot, you will be ok.

Beak Boater,

Thank you for the info. As far as the drives go I guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it. I will keep a look out for some ITS's. I really would like a trouble free combo to get me into the high 80's low 90's. I run the boat in Lake St. Clair and do travel to Lake Erie Put-In-Bay on weekends and to Lake Huron also.
