Speed increase by removing cabin interior.
 

Hi guys,

I am not considdering removing the interior in the cabin because it is so nice, but I just wonder if someone have ever done this and tested the boat before/after with the less weight in the bow? My experience from setting up fast V-bottoms is that the lighter it is in the bow, the easier it is to get high speeds. Or is the fiberglass so heavy that it will not make a big difference?

Yes, the less weight you have the faster it will run. I ran my 2001 27 Fever with 500efi, gps73 took out everything that wasn't screwed down, cushions, anchor, spare battery, cooler, girls, bed cushin, and picked up 2 mph on second run. Did both with in 30 mins of each other.

2 mph is not much. But we always want to go faster... What about the bottom? Some say that cross grinded surfase give extra speed, while others polish the hull. What about adding "Rain X" for car wind screen. Is this something that will have effect on speed or is the "bottle neck" in other parts of the boat. I spoke to one guy who had a 47 with 500EFIs. It ran 82 mph, and after he painted the bottom completely with anti-fouling paint, it still went 81-82....

sanding the bottom will break the surface tension and sometimes give a little on speed, blueprint the bottom will give 3 to 5 mph if done properly,

Anything you do to the bottom other than the way it comes from Fountain, will either decrease speed or cause premature aging. Bottom paint will slow down a boat, however if you have to leave it in the water 24/7 so will barnicles:eek:
