My boat weighs.......
I took my boat down to a scale yesterday and weighed my boat. It's a 29 Fever with a single 500 EFI and ~100 gallons of gas and a tri-axle trailer. With my boat and all the gear (anchor, lifejackets, trailer, etc..) it weighs 8580 lbs. I don't know how much help this will be for anybody, but if you were curious to what the 29 weighed, there it is.

5500 lb for the boat
~2000 lb for the trailer 600 lb for the fuel ~ 8300 lb total, it adds up quick! "Yeah, I'm sure your Ford SportTrac could pull it" :party-smiley-004: |
Hell 08 diesel tows that like crap, but that's a whole other story!

Nice, I tell people all day long, its more weight than they think. Imagine a 38TE with 420 gallons of fuel, I have seen 4X4 Dually drugg down the ramp until the boat floats. :ernaehrung004:

.I had a fun trip down the ramp in Florida a few years ago with my 42 and a load of fuel!!!! Dually 3500 Dodge. Lots of fun thoughts going through your head when it's happening.

I had the dragging down the ramp problem with my 29' and a 87 daully.. I blame it on the bridgestone tires I have now they just get no traction. Now I lower the air pressure down to about 25 psi and have no problem. I only tow about 4 mile to the ramp so any farther than that I fill them back up.

I've been preaching about how heavy the total towed package becomes for YEARS, but no one listens unless they run their own setup across a scale.
8250 lbs. for my old Sonic 26/500EFI/POS Aluminum trailer/100 gallons/gear. |

How do you get the boat back out of the water? Just the difference in weight of the gas you burnt?

I could not believe what mine weighed, did the same thing last summer. 312 fastech on my trailer weighed 11,400 lbs. I have an F-250 4x4 and find when I back down a slick ramp, I leave it in drive and let the boat pull me down and just step on the gas a little then all four tires can grab to help slow the momentum.

Just picked up a F650. Did the white knuckle thing last year with a F250 4x4 on a 3,500 mile trip. Never again.

When I was a kid in the 60's...
There were seven of us in the family. Gear for seven for a week or so. We put a catamaran on the roof, and a Cal-24 sailboat on a trailer behind us: 4000 lbs boat, 3000 lb steel trailer with high supports (used a hoist to launch). The tow vehicle: a VW van with about 30 some horsepower, and a major hydraulic brake system connected to the trailer brakes! We could cruise down the freeway at about 45 or 50, unless it was not FLAT or downhill, when we'd be going about 25 or 30. At least it stopped well! F350 4x4 dually now... |
