Flapper or no Flappers?

I just replaced my exhaust tips with Hardin tips with flappers built in. I had to cut the tips down in order to get the flanges to mount up to the transom. In doing so the flappers were cut off so I had them welded back on and installed the tips with flapper. But now when the motor is running I have water leaking from the headers where the header meet with captain’s choice, there is a ring type clamp that holds them together. And that’s where the water is dripping from on both sides not enough to be a big issue BUT enough to bug me. And it never did this before. I tried to tighten them up but they still leak.
Ps the motor is a 575SCI would the flappers be causing more back presser
Or what?

did you put in the gasket between the header and the tailpipe?

I never took it apart i just lossned the clamps on the black hoses removed the screws from the flangs in the transom then slid the new tips back in resealed the flanges retightened the clamps on the black hoses.
Am i missing something?

You may want to try loosening everything, then tighten the header to tailpipe before the tailpipe to tip. If that does not work, replace the gasket and / or add some high temp silicone.
