Need Price Info On 35 Lightning

Found a 35 lightning in pristine cond. 40 hrs and its a 99 with no trailer, twin 500 hp .Looks like its been in heated storage for 10 yrs. Cockpit cover looks like new as does the rest of the boat. I've owned Bajas until now would be 1st fountain.Whats a high and low price range on a boat like this, owner says 80k on the low and 100k on the high ,in todays maket are these prices accurate. Nada is 68 to 76k. THANKS FOR THE INFO NEWBIE

I would say the owner is a little optimistic here. The NADA numbers are much closer to reality in this market. Look thru the classified adds on here as well as other sites such as Boat Trader. Condition is a big factor in the value of a used boat, often you are better off to pay a little more for a perfect one than to steal a lesser boat only to spend money fixing it up to the level you want.

I had a '99 Lightning with 500's and it is a great boat. Should run 80, even a couple more with the right props, great handling and ride quality. Mine was the Anniversary Edition, which was upgraded graphics etc, and it was a solid 9.9 on a 10 scale. I sold it in the fall of 2007 for $87,500 on an Eagle trailer. Few more hours but very fresh engines with some upgrades to the valve train, lab props and a spare set as well. At that time I felt it was fair on both sides of the deal.

Good luck in your search.

Yes, boat and Eagle trailer to a guy in VT. No, there were not any issues with the trailer at all. When I bought the package it was on Lake Cumberland, trailer probably had less than a thousand miles on it. I ran it back here to N.Y. and then back and forth to the river once per year, another 300 some odd miles in total. Don't know how much Kevin traveled with it, but I don't think he is too far from the lake, so likely not too much.

I did notice he had it in the classisifieds here for sale, noticed you were looking for one and was going to mention it, but it was sold before I saw you were looking. Did you buy it?

yes I did , it is a nice trailer . I have it here in cinci. and was looking real close at it and found that the axles are not inline perfict . the left front tire is wareing really funny and shakes the whole trailer . I measured the distance between the tires and there is about 3/4 of a inch deference and one axle is 1/4 wider than the other . do you happen to have a extra wheel lock key . Keven has misplaced it , he's still looking for it . thanks Tim

ragged edge , I forgot to say that you sold a great looking boat . Tim

Still love the looks of that one! That was one sweet boat.

No key here, matter of fact I just picked up the locks I ordered for this one tuesday. The form to order the extra key is on my office desk, think I better get that done before I forget, then can't find the one I have. I'm thinking 3 would be good, one in the truck, one in the boat, and one in the tool box.

Wrong axle pal!!!

BTW had a conversation with JD a while back and it seems the modus operandi is the same whether it's my boat or yours. Go figure.

Their prices are too high for a repo.:drink:

A clean 98 32 repo with 500's on a trailer went for 30's this week. The place with the one your looking at always has some insanely high prices listed as "wholesale" and "retail". However, I don't know what they actually get from people, but I'd guess it's a good deal less.

nice try...

With your myriad of trailer and towing knowledge, there are some things I didn't think I'd have to explain to you about tandem trailers and won't bother here. Just ask if you would like to be enlightened.

then i guess the only difference between success and failure would be my equipment was and is kept in good working and maintenence order... all other modus being the same that is. :eureka:

Ragged Edge, are you buying the same brand of locks? If so, can you send me the company name and phone number, maybe I can call them and get a key for myself.

tim brown 06-07-2009 10:24 AM

well guys if the rear axle was the problem it still could be from the other issue you had earlyer . the rear axle may have moved slightly and not be square with the frame and the weight in rolling on the rear tire right now and dragging the front tire . Now that I know I will start there to square it up . thanks Tim

I believe the were McGuard (sp?) same as the ones I just bought. Problem here is that I never registered them. Got some real good vise-grips?

Which reminds me that I should mail in that card.

tim brown 06-15-2009 09:09 AM

well I just removed the locks by driving a impact socket on the lock with a sledg hammer and broke them loose witha breaker bar . they are gone . I still need to aline axles .
