Haters will always be haters. I would rather have a community of helpful enthusiasts than waste my time with that BS. Just smile and give them the thumbs up as you pass them.

Well said! Does get old after a while though.

i am pretty new to Fountain ownership , but have followed them for several years . Ive never gotten on the forums and done as much reading as i have in the last 3 or 4 months , and i cannot believe all the Fountain hating goin on. I have wanted to post and ask why and what it was all about. Is it Reggie ? the bragging he does? The arrogance? Either way , i have not ridden in many other boats , when i decided to move forward and actually buy and not just lurk and speak about it anymore , Fountain , Scarab , and Baja , in that order were on my list of to look into . After really looking first hand , i said forget it ,I am not going to settle it will be Fountain or nothing . Im sure there are ups and downs on all of them but it was Fountains quality and top notch build that turned me on. I love everything about my 32 , and havent found anything i dont like . I suppose maybe someday that could change , but just because the flagships frontman walks around the boating world like a proud rooster isnt going to change the fact that Fountain is a quality built boat. I dont quite understand the ,Oh he has bad hair , or wears gold , or is to arrogant , thats it Fountains suck ordeal.
One other thing , what is the problem with the BEAK?
Thats one of the things that really set them off IMO.

tim brown 08-06-2009 07:51 AM

a lot of people are just jelous , because of cost , or they got beat by one , or what ever . It only cost a little more to go first class . there are probly better boats but I like my Fountains . they don't have any quality in the engine compartment as far as glass work is consern but the outside is good . +1 Used to always try to defend Fountain but finally decided to hell with it. If they want to hate, then let them. Probably about 90% chance that my next boat will be a Fountain and I won't let it bother me then either.

Generally speaking a Cat will always beat a V hull with similar power. The interesting thing is that the cat owners know it and the v-hull owner's know it, but the standard comparision of cat owners is always against Fountain. I guess that speaks volumes for it to be the gold standard of comparisions. I think it is hilarious to listen to the Fountain haters talk when most of them have never ridden in one, driven one, or raced one. I think the reason Reggie is so hated is because he is one of the few people in boating that can back up his bragging with wins. His boats constantly win and no matter how hard other manufacturers try, they can't keep up.

For some reason the whiners think that the beak is wasted space and in a side by side length comparion should not be considered. You will always hear that a 42 Fountain is the size of a 38 when you take the beak and swim platform into consideration. I have parked side by side with a 43 Donzi and other than the 1 foot difference, match up almost exactly. Other than a few brands most take the swim platform into the length of the boat, and I think the beak makes the boat unique. Does it do anything, supposedly it provides bow lift, many of the Fountain raceboats have the beak removed because of this. I don't know, but I do like my fountain and I could have bought any brand including Cig. After 3 years of owning the boat I am very pleased with it's quality, fit, and finish.

hoff2483 08-06-2009 01:55 PM

I absolutely love Fountain's as they are my favorite boat. I have a 29 Fever w/the 575 SCI, but I do not use anymore because I am trying to sell. I actually bought a 33' Outlaw because I got a hell of a deal on it and it had basically no hours on it. For the boating I do the extra cockpit room is nice in the baja, but I am definitely a Fountain guy. My dream boat is a 42 ft. Lightning w/ 525's, but I have to work my way up to it. I don't know how anyone can bash Fountain the ride is amazing, the rigging is fantastic, and IMO there is no faster v-bottom hull out there.

Reggie has the right to be cocky. he earned it. I will say this about him. If you ever are at a boat show or ever get to meet him you will find out he is a hell of a nice guy and will talk boats with you until your ear hurts.

Build quality is excellent. I like how they look fast even sitting still! I had a 1998 29' with 500HP. Absolutely loved the boat.

Moved to Bajas once the kids came though for the room. Dollar for MPH- Fountain wins hands down. Dollar for room- I like Baja. Just different boating styles.

iariverrat 08-07-2009 01:48 PM

They look fast @ are fast! The people that talk down aboat Fountains do not know what a good boat they are, go for a ride, drive one then be honest. Because now you are a Fountain fan.

carcrash 08-07-2009 03:01 PM

When I was looking for a new boat, I went in to talk to Bob Teague. I asked him about a few of the boats we were considering (including Cig and Formula and a couple of west coast custom builders). He said I should not stop looking until I had also checked out Fountains. A couple of his guys also strongly suggested I investigate Fountains.

So I did, and I liked what I discovered. Soon, I had narrowed the search down to a 42 Lightning. Found a great boat, great condition, great price, went down and spent the day checking it out. It was almost perfect, just not enough headroom, not enough open cockpit space, but every boat is a compromise. It was the closest thing we could find to what we wanted. So I brought my wife and the checkbook the next day...

But as we were driving to get there, we both noticed a boat in a broker's lot, a boat I had never seen (that's unusual!). It was a Fountain 32 Sportfish Cruiser. While it was much shorter than we wanted, it had more headroom, and a much much more fun cockpit. "All boats are compromises" but this appeared to be much less of a compromise than the 42 Lightning. We spent a bit more time comparing the two, fell in love with the performance and handling of both, and went with the far more cruisable 32.

We do our boating in the Pacific, and the closest islands are 25 miles offshore, the more interesting ones are over 50. The conditions near our favorite cruising grounds (Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, and San Miguel islands) regularly see over 8 foot seas and gale force winds. So longer is always better. But we also end up spending days on-board, so the better cabin and cockpit really makes the 32 a better boat for us.

I would love to get a bigger boat, but all the new cruiser/fish Fountains are too wide and heavy to trailer. A sportfish cruiser based on a 42 or 47 hull would be great.

But instead, we are planning on building custom next time, since no production builder builds what we really want.

aTX427 08-08-2009 09:36 AM

Carcrash - interesting feedback. i agree, everything is a compromise. I would like a little more finish out in the bilge from the factory, but I was able to clean up some of the rigging myself and saved $100K over the next best thing.

I went from a 25 Eliminator Daytona to a 38 lightning, so the room was a huge improvement. So far, my 42L has been the best boat I ever owned. I is very trouble free, rides great, always starts, throws a ton of water in the air and will run in the low 100's anytime - anywhere regardless of load. I may have made chosen a different brand if money was no object, otherwise I am very pleased.

Not sure about your area, but the high perf market seems to be thinning out. I see way fewer powerboats in Austin and was amazed how few I saw at Texoma over the 4th. The market is too narrow for brand prejudices. I am just fortunate to have the ability to play on a weekly basis.

tx427 what does your fountain look like, i have a 98 42 on texoma.

Roger 08-08-2009 08:42 PM

People bash people because they are successful. Same thing happens here in my home town. Most of the bashing is from (IMO) Obama lovers or liberals because they want to spread the wealth. I have met Reggie MANY times and there is not a nicer man I know of. I was at the factory picking up my 38 and he made a special trip over to shake my hand even though he was entertaining some customers buying a $700,000 boat. Another time he got up from a meeting with the Fountain brass and came outside to shake my hand. He is a very proud man who LOVES his boats and is not afraid to tell you so. I personally do not know of any other CEO's who are as dedicated to their products as Reggie Fountain.

We ran the spring fun run and spent the the 4th of July on Texoma this year. "It's Only Money" is the name of the boat.

Fountains are affordable quality. You can keep them for years and they still maintain that great look.

PURPLE HORNET 08-09-2009 04:56 PM

I also like Fountains never had one but might one day. Here is a good video of Reggie

The performance boat market is a trainwreck and Reggie is trying to sell boats.....I can't say I always agree with their tactics but then again I don't pretend to understand what it takes to sell boats these days....on the Jammin on the James run my boat had a mechanical issue and I was not able to complete the run....Reggie was made aware of this by a third party at the lunch stop and sought me out and gave me his seat for the remainder of the run.....I thought and still think that it was a tremendous gesture.....unfortunately there were some situations that occurred at the run that involved the guys from Fountain that the organizers of the run weren't too happy about...I know and have a alot of respect for both parties and I am confident that they can make amends so hopefully all will be welcomed at future events

I have an older 47 Sport Cruiser. I'll bet it is just what you want. It is basically a Lightning hull with a taller deck with 6'4" headroom in the cabin. I got one in great condition with low hours and love it.
