32 Vs 35

WHAT IS THE SPEEDS ON A FOUNTAIN 32 AND 35 WITH 500'S .EVERY THING THAT I READ STATES THAT THE 32 IS @ 80+ AND THE 35@85+ . THIS SEEMS TO ME THAT WITH THE SAME POWER THE SMALLER BOAT WOULD BE FASTER.

WES311SR1 04-03-2002 10:14 PM

WHAT ABOUT THE EARLY MODLES 1998-2000 ?

29Fever 04-04-2002 08:40 AM

Same thing. I don't know about the earlier 90s models though. (non step)

BAJA WILL 04-04-2002 09:37 AM

Fever Mike,

Please stop saying the 29 is faster than a 27 w/ same power. I have run against two 29 w/ same power and passed both of them with no problems. One right after the guy argued that his 29 was faster, not. The only way a 29 is faster is in rough water. Both times I was running in freash and great conditions. Unless you have personally passed a 27 w/ same power running WOT. Please stop spreading rumors. I would hate to see you eat your words.

Will;)

29Fever 04-04-2002 10:26 AM

Will,

Ask Reggie. He'll tell you what's up.

You might edge out a 29' if the guy had six people, a full tank of gas, a 72 quart cooler filled with booze, a full fresh water tank, hadn't cleand out his ****ter in a while, running at half throttle with his tabs down and drive tucked! :p

BAJA WILL 04-04-2002 12:02 PM

OK I will bring it on,.:D I will be at Lake Murray SC on April 28 and my home all summer SML in VA. Also looking at going down to Savanna, and once to Ocala. May be the two 29s I raced just wernt set up right. However I know I had just fueled all the way up and I had more people on board and everyone could not believe it happened but it did. This individual bragged quiete a bit. As for selling the 29, well their is more profit for them. And agin in rough, such as racing conditions I don't doubt it, I don't know I don't race.
:D

for the 32 and 35 I have no idea other than what I read, Also what does the conf on Fountain say, I can't pull it up for some reason??

Will:D

32fever 04-04-2002 12:18 PM

I didn't think the 35 "became" faster than a 32 UNTIL the introduction of the twin step hull. I could be wrong but the smaller boat theory should be true on the single stepped hulls. I've never run with a 35 with the same power as I have, but it sure seems like it would be slower with the single or no step unless it got rough, then when the advantage takes place you really don't get your true "top speed" cause you're not in the water enough.

But, I must add that each boat is different. One boat may be faster than another (same boat) with no real reason. One factory motor may put out 5 hp than another, you really never know without checking.

BAJA WILL 04-04-2002 03:06 PM

No problem Mike, :D

Hey I am assuming that is a pic of your dash, looks really cool did you do it your self or from Fountain???

candyman35 04-04-2002 11:27 PM

The single step 35's were running 82-84 with 500 EFI's. I'm not sure if these were Reggie speeds or GPS. I always thought the 32's were faster than the single step 35's by a couple mph.

27Fountain,
What power do you have and what is the best GPS speed on flat water?

Fever Mike,
What is your best GPS speed on flat water? Does your boat run harder with a light chop? Are you running in salt water? Nothing like BOARD racing!

Dan

BTW, we have snow flurries tonight.:(

candyman35 04-04-2002 11:33 PM

I just got a new dash from these guys.
http://www.nisongermarine.com/dash-p...ch-panels.html

Team Marine makes them. They cost more if you buy them from Team Marine.
Dan

candyman35 04-05-2002 12:45 AM

Mike,

You have me covered. My best was 72.1 with the Gaffrig showing 76. Now we need 27Fountain to chime in.

I know my wife always costs me 3-4 mph. If the boat were wider she wouldn't be able to reach me. :D BTW, three footers are considered a great day on Lake Michigan. She doesn’t like the 4 and up days.

Dan

29Fever 04-05-2002 08:56 AM

My wife reaches over and throttles up when I'm not looking!

She doesn't do the wrenchin' on it.

Of course I'm talking about inland lake chop and not 4' offshore waves! I can get some good air off of cruiser wake though.

BAJA WILL 04-05-2002 03:53 PM

Well, Maybe Fever Mike does have me??? My absolute best is 75 radar freash water about 30 or less gallons fuel, Second was at Fountain full tank of gas, brackish water radar 74, that was with only 3 hrs on motor and Reggie on the sticks. Turning hydro 26 5350 rpm. Both times flat water mid summer. Both times Speedo was at 79mph. Again also the time I passed the 29s was freash water and nearly flat water. I have never put my boat in salt?? so I have no # for that. When we picked it up we were told the X dim was set a little higher, since we were running the 500efi and XR. I have nothing to compare it to so??

WILL;)

candyman35 04-05-2002 10:48 PM

It sounds like you guys would be a good race. I'd be behind you two with the spray in the air and the objects being thrown from the two boats to lighten the load. :D What is the weight difference between the 27' and 29'? It sounds like you both have great running boats.

Dan

Curt 04-10-2002 09:11 PM

I love these 27/29 and 32/35 posts that crop up about once a month. The fact is no two boats are alike. Some 27's will be a mph faster than some 29's and some 32's will squeek by some 35's. There is so much "play" in the hull/drive set up and tune of the motors that until you get out there in the wet stuff and bounce off the rev limiters you will never know for sure. I do highly suspect that no boat sold to the general public will touch the "Reggie" magazine boats that we all drool over.

Oh well, lets gas em up and let the big dog eat!:D

29Fever 04-11-2002 08:24 AM

Curt,

But it's fun to talk smack!!;)

The only people that seem to want to race a beak boat either have bigger beaks or blower motors. There's no sneaking up on anyone with a Fountain!

Candyman35,

5500 lbs is the posted weight for the single 29'. I'm not sure about the 27'.

BAJA WILL 04-11-2002 09:15 AM

I think the 2001 Classic weight is 4900lbs;)

Will

29Fever 04-11-2002 11:25 AM

I got the 5,500 lbs from Fountain's web page. I wonder if that's the new 29' with the stupid windshield?!

Curt 04-11-2002 09:15 PM

Hey Mike, my 91 32' has factory sheets that indicate a speed of 76 at 5,100. This is with the 502 magnums that came stock in the boat. I never saw over 69 in fresh water with those motors. I was able to outrun a lot of other similarly powered sport boats with it but I never saw "Reggie" numbers myself. I had to poor a lot of money into the motor box to reach 76. That's why I am suspicious. Adding to my suspicion are the claims of 88 out of a 500 hp 35 from the factory. It may be true but damn it's hard to believe. I'm running a couple 600's and I'm not hitting 88. I can get 85 and some change on gps in the fresh but that's it. Granted I don't have a stepped hull but jeez. Maybe your boat was set up perfectly for speed with a higher than standard X dimension and so forth. Does your boat plane easily? Mine will get up out of the water in a heart beat no matter what the load is. I definitely don't have a high X. I wish I did.

Jan 04-11-2002 09:32 PM

Okay Curt, whine, whine, whine! I wish I had a higher x, I wish I had a higher x, I wish I had a higher x. Hell I wish I could have two Tyler Crocket built 502's. Just joking , have a good time in Rome. We will see you next week and laugh about your lousey TRIP and 30hrs of flight time.

JAN

BAJA WILL 04-12-2002 08:50 AM

Reggie got 74mph on my boat, and OK bear with me, I measured the X dim last night,(Ithink correctly). I came up with 17" from notch in hull to bottom of drive.

WIll

INDY27 04-12-2002 09:09 AM

FEVER MIKE,
If I ever decide to put my boat in the salt I will be more than happy to show you what the back of a 27 looks like from a DISTANCE!:p

Curt 04-12-2002 09:37 AM

Mike what's salt worth in speed compared to fresh generally speaking?

BAJA WILL 04-12-2002 10:30 AM

FeverMike

Thanks for the X dim info, When you say center of drive shaft, you mean the actual center like where the lower meets the top, their is like a flap of metal that goes around where they connect? I will remeasure, going that route.

Will:cool:

JSV 04-13-2002 09:19 AM

Does anyone know If the 32 is faster than the 35 with say 650-700 hp? You would think with the change in power to weight ratio the top speed numbers would change.

Also I am looking for a 32' stepped Fountain but I need to sell my 1992 27 ft with 700hp first

BAJA WILL 04-15-2002 09:10 AM

OK, lets measure this bad boy again, Thanks Fever Mike, I think I got it this time.;)

WILL
