Fountain 31 c/c or cuddy
 

Anyone own a 31 C/C or 31 C/C cuddy. Would like to know how it rides.

Or has anyone rode in one and can give me an opinion.

We boat in so.fla and have rode in contenders and regulators and intrepids. Don't know anyone with a fountain. I like the idea the fountain should be faster, but the wife wants the ride quality of the 31 contender, etc.

Currently have a 24 spectre c/c.

Mine is a 32, very similar to the 31 cuddy. At the speeds you'll probably be able to go in open water, without hurting people or damaging equipment (not the boat, but the refer, fishing gear, ...), there propbably won't be much difference in ride between any comparable sized deep V.

Narrow beam is much smoother riding than wide beam, makes a really big difference underway.

But comparing 8.5 beam boats, they really are pretty similar.

A couple of things to notice:

Headroom: better try it. Back aches come from not enough.

Sinkability: Lots of these things have lots of ways that can sink your boat. A big sloppy wave rolling over the boat can happen on even nice days out there, and you want to be sure its just a laugh, and not a disaster.

For example, off the Florida Keys I got a Mako 26 center console so full of water... the water was literally above my knees, throughout the entire boat. Absolutely no problem: the stability seemed not to change, the water rushed back out, seconds later you could not tell it even happened.

That's far more important than a couple knots of top end speed.

Personally, I wish I had bought the 31 cuddy, as I like everything about my boat except the I/O power.

Amazing , we both have 32 SFC's and had Mako's. Mine was a 258 with twin Evinrude 175's. It was a tank.

I had a 31 TE and loved it. I also had the 29 SFC and hated it. I didn't like sitting so far forward. The 31 rode so much better!
