29 Fountain Driving Advice
I recently bought a 2005 29 Fountain 525EFI/XR. I've had many different wakeboard boats in the past, but this is my first high performance boat.
I have the performance report from Fountain which I follow, but any other advice on safely driving the boat. For example recommendations on drive and trim settings during high speed turns? Drive and trim settings in flat vs chop? I hear the step hulls can be dangerous if you're not careful. Thanks in advance. |

Mine is older with twin 502's. I would think with any you would slow down and tuck the drives in. Mine can get pretty loose at high speeds trimed out. I would not want ot enter much of a turn with it this way. On mine I think it would spell disaster. I'm not an expert driver and dont get after it that much but be careful.

On a stepped bottom boat, tucking the drives going into a turn is going to get you in trouble quick. Do a search on stepped bottom boats, their is a lot of good information on this subject.

Check out the Fountain website in the Owners Center - User Manuals Section. The User Manual for the 27' to 47' Sportboats goes through the handling characteristics of the step bottom hulls and the effects of trim and tab angles on the handling of the boat. Hope that helps!

Or look up Tres Martin on here and look into one of his classes.

High speed turns.... Are you talking about turning the boat sharply to one side at 80 mph???? That will put you in BIG trouble!
Try to do a sharp turn in 30 mph, pretty safe, then go up in speed.. You will understand that these things are not ment to TURN at high speeds, just change direction slightly. Good Luck from a 29 Fever enthusiast!! |
I PMed the guy yesterday, No response. The second post scares me. Bad advise kills
