speaker locations
Do you guys mind posting some pictures of your custom speaker locations on the Fountains? I am planning on making some changes to mine this winter. Thanks Tom
|
Went with the replacement of the Fountain logo circle light for the Babbs 5 1/4" speakers and the 6x9's went into the rear bench seat.
2) 10" subs down at the drivers/passengers feet. Didn't want them in the rear bench do to the amount of storage space I'd loose. Sounds great and will viberate the metal dock roofs while in the slip under cover, but out in the open, just can't get a good sound. Need all the speakers up high, not on the floor, but I didn't want to cut into the vinyl sides. |
I will brutha as soon as i get my boat out the shop. Pods on the dash r the way to go. Have 4- 5 1/2 speakers on the dash loud as hell 3-10 s under the seat amps under the wet bar in the cabin with a fan in there and 2 extra batteries under the rear bench
|
and some 5 1/2 in factory locations as well
|
Where did you get the pods for your dash?
|
4 Attachment(s)
One 10" sub in the cockpit and the other in the cabin under the center lounge. 4) 5 1/2" in the cabin valances. 2) enclosed speakers under the bench seat in cockpit. and 2) 5 1/2" in the sides where the Fountain logos were. The 2 amps went under the bench seat, one you can see the other is on the back side not visible and the radio runs the 4 speakers in the valances.
US1...MaryAnn for sure. |
You have to mount some speakers on the dash. The two directional pods are the best, just two speakers on the dash will be louder than 6 by your feet. Hopefully someone else can post a pic.
|
Guy out here makes them and paints them what ever color you want.

4 10's in the back, 2 12's in the front by your feet and 5's everywhere.:bong::lolhit: 2 4300 amps and a 1800 to drive the 5's. The way I got it, but I wouldn't change a thing :drink: :D:cool-smiley-011: It had the pods but i took em out. I like the space under my windshild open. You can still hear the stereo real good ! :)
( pictures were takin in storage before my Upholstry was done :picard1: ) |
I don't have my boat handy... but can I fit the JL 7.7s easily where the Fountain logo is on my 38' Lightning? I haven't looked but depth is my concern.

No dice on the 7.7's but the 6.5's fit nice!!!!
So the depth is the problem for the 7.7's on the 38 ? I am assuming that will stand to be correct in the 32 fever as well???? I was just about to pull the trigger on a couple sets of the 7.7s for my boat, and put in the logo lights spots. . . . |
I guess if you want ot cut out the light locations they will work but the 6.5's fit right in no mods at all....would post pictures but ....Oh well
|
.
I have a 32 and no matter what you will have to cut out behind the logo light for the speaker motor. Unless you can find something that is only 1.25" deep. Look at yours close and the measurement for the motor diameter, on mine the support for the wire run had to be trimmed, not a big deal on the port side but on the starboard it is holding a lot. You want to make the hole big enough to vent the speaker into the gunnels, even 6.5’s need a fair amount of free air behind them so you don’t load the driver. BTW The logo lights leave a black rim, my 6.5’s don’t cover it. |
I hear a lot of good things about the JL audio marine speakers. Would it do any good to run them straight off a 50W x 4 deck (22 RMS), or is it not worth spending the $$$ on them if I'm not going to run a larger amp to push them?
|
Amps seem to be pretty reasonable these days so i would not run them off the head unit only. I listened to a set of 7.7's yesterday in my partners bass boat with a small amp and was overly impressed, cannot believe the sound he is getting out of those. Another friend called me over to his house on saturday to listen to his new setup that he was very proud of . He had 4 west marine speakers , a Kicker marine amp and two bazooka self powered marine tubes. Bass response was pretty ok , and the volume was loud , but honestly it sounded really bad compared to the JL audio that i have heard. (didnt have the heart to tell him) , although he is a cheapskate . With another 250 to 300 added to his budget I think he would have been a lot happier.
|
I am running my JL 6.5s in my cabin on the head unit power and the rest on a JL MHD 900/5. The pair in the cabin I didnt want extremely loud anyway. They sound great with just the deck power. But they really shine when you put some power behind them. I am running 2 JL 10's and two 7.7's in the bench seat enclosure without baffles and they rock and have a pair of 6.5's in the factory locations. Love the set up!!

Scooter B,
Don't know if that was directed to me or not but I'll chime in. My amp is located in the engine compartment next to the battery (but its a marine amp JL MHD 900/5). Had a max total of 3 feet of power/ground cable that I had to run. I ran the remote switch to turn on the amp from the head unit of course, along with the three pair of preamp signal RCAs. Those were routed to the amp down the left side and under the bench seat, across the boat and then back to the amp. If you will pm me your email address, Ill send you some pics of the install. |
I am going to run two amps . I got a hell of a deal on some 2 gage wire, pretty big stuff!!!! so I guess i should not lose any power for the long stretch. I am going to run a distribution block and hope that works out. Have everything i want except the speakers . Just trying to figure out how to do it right the first time. There just arent many options for speaker locations in the cockpit....

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to keep it simple and go with 2 7.7's in the rear bench and 2 6.5's up front on a 4 channel amp and see how it sounds. I'll snap some photos if I ever can find time to get it finished.

Currently installing 2 Cvx kicker 10's, 2 6x9 kickers under the rear bench, 2 6.5 kicker componets where the fountain lights originally were & I'm running 2 amps 1000 mono for the subs & a 4 channel 500 for the rest... Also installed 2 clarion Mw1 remotes, 1 by the swim deck 1 going around my dash somewhere... Will prolly be adding some kicker 4.5's up under the fairing or on the side of the dash & glove box.
Previous owner installed garbage 8 inch bazooka 2 ways where the fountain logo goes, basically limiting Me to find another 8 inch speaker... Could only find 2 brands focal access & the bazookas again. So I'm currently having a 9 inch circle cut out of 1/8th inch steel, w/ the cutouts for the 6.5 & the tweeter inside the 9 inch circle... Then have powder coated black to match my grab handles & seat frames, hopefully it looks good & will be unique.... If anyone would like pictures when it's finished I'll try & post some up... |

I had the ones under the fairing in front.. It seemed like those were all I could hear when cruising at speed.. took them out.. Now I hear the whole system...:)

jmoore: If you haven't had them done yet I could get some made up for you no problem. I have a metal shop with CNC Plasma and a full powdercoating facility, so we could cut you up something that'd look factory.

Jp thank you for the offer. My buddies dad owns a machine shop here locally & he is making them for Me, I believe on a Cnc as well.

The logo left balck marks/stains on my vinly when I removed them. The Babbs I used are 5 1/4" speakers, so not big enough to fit as is. I made spacers from 1/2" acrylic the same OD as the logo lights to cover the stains, and then counterbored the spacers 1/4" deep to recess the speakers into the spacers for a cleaner edge look. The black look was achieved by simply applying black vinyl I got from a sign shop and stuck it to the back side. Gives it a real high gloss black look with no chance to scratch it off too. I was going to put some LEDs around the inside of the spacer behind the speaker to light up the clear/black spacer, but never got around to it. |

Couldn't you have adjusted them to get a better balance?

The best set up I had was 4 JL Marine 10's under the bench.
4 7.7's in the sides. |
