I have used Black Streak Remover. The stuff you use on RV's. It works pretty well. I did find this out just the other day though. I replaced all the spark plugs and set the gaps where they should be and I noticed a HUGE reduction in soot on the transom. Just an observation that may be beneficial to some!!

Best I've found is Simple Green and a soft brush. My boat gets washed every time it goes back on the lift and the soot just builds up over summer. Once I clean it, give it a couple coats of wax, which seems to be the best at slowing the build up, i'm good for another month or so before it needs it again. Simple Green removes the wax, so the soot will build up faster if not rewaxed. Tried the AC Rapid fire plugs that have been talked up about here for making the motors run cleaner. Only thing I noticed was my wallet was lighter.
Same problem on my 32 w/ 502's, and also previous 27' with a blower motor. |
Greased Lightning
Start with it cut in 1/2 with water. If that is not enough, strengthen it up. |
how about the white scum that builds up on the drives and the tabs from the exhaust blowing down on , I can scrape it with my finger nails but have not found a cleaner disolve it ,any ideas would be helpfull thanks.

Simple Green, Purple Power, Super Clean all work well for fresh soot.
Soot that has been on transom longer removed by a good cleaner wax like McGuire's. For white film caused by water deposits, soaking with CLR will dissolve and clean without abrasive scrubbing. |
Yep!! That was what I was about to recommend. The calcium carbonate left by evaporating water can be easily removed with a dilute solution of CLR. A good coat of wax and a drive shower helps too!! :coolcowboy:

Sno Bol toilet bowl cleaner will remove the deposits too. Squirt it on and watch it disolve the white, then rinse. No scrubbing. I've used it to wash the sides of my boat when it got a little calcium build up over time. Smooth as a babies behind afterwards. Then wax.

I have tried them all and this stuff by FAR works the best.....http://www.lowes.com/pd_26939-65140-...076863&Ntt=gel gloss&Ntk=i_products&pl=1¤tURL=/pl__0__s?newSearch=true$Ntt=gel gloss$y=6$x=28
