oil temp
was wondering what everyone thought on my boat 93 27 fever 502 carb mag if i am pounding on it my oil temp go's to 245 degrees and stays there that seems high to me am i wrong . at all times the water temp stays at 140 degrees i run 15w 40 rotella t oil (diesel oil) and the oil pressure stays constant and high any time its off idle and stays at 19 to 20 psi on idle . is the oil cooler clogged or something meaning the water can go through it easy ?

I believe 245 i pretty common when running WOT for longer periods. Mine goes to 260 but not over. My boat was fitted with too small coolers (I got close to 300 on time when I did not read the gauge...), so I had to replace them with bigger. I have been told that when the oil is in the 250-region, it should be replacd as it does not lubricate that well any longer.
Any more inputs?? |
My owners manual for the 575sci says 170°-180° oil temp @ 5,200rpm's w.o.t. That sounds low to me. Just bought the boat and have only taken it on a 10min test drive.

huh i have just one stock oil cooler mounted on the rear of the engine / back of the intake . is there any flushing procedure i could try .

Yes, Have you had the seawater impeller fail? The first place the pieces go is thru the oil cooler and can get stuck there

oil temp
245 sounds about right.remember you want the oil temp above 212*f to cook-off water that get into the motor from condensation.when i run hard i see 255,but nothing more.i would recomend using sythic oil.i holds up better in hotter oil temps.
