All Of Our Warranties Are Voided!

Fountain Owners;
If your boat was built previous to the Bankrupcy, Your Fountain 6 six year hull warranty has been taken away!

My 2008 38 EC has some stress cracks and a delaminating windshield, and I got the bad news from Shogren last week.
Any pre-approved warranty claims will never be paid either.
I sent a letter to Fountain Customer Service, and got no acknowledgement or response.

So those of us who supported Reggie during these questionable economic times by buying one of his boats, have been rewarded by him turning a blind eye and deaf ear to his own hull and accessories warranties...
...But at least he still got to build his new mansion, anyway.

We have been led down a deceitful pathway, and then abandoned. Don't accept any Kool Aid, if its offered...
The resemblence between Jim Jones and Reggie is uncanny.

Get real.:drink:

US1 Fountain 05-01-2010 09:54 PM

Does Reggie even have the power to make those calls?

Boomer35 05-01-2010 11:33 PM

make the call or not make it, the name of the boat is his name and reputation,

thats unbelievable, sure does up the anty on the fountain vs. outerlimits or fountain vs. cigarette thread doesnt it.......

dykstra 05-02-2010 04:51 AM

That sux!!!!

jeff32 05-02-2010 08:02 AM

I'm sure that it is not the way he (Reggie) wants it to go, but he does not control fountain by himself anymore... he's probably not the right guy to shoot at...

just my guess.

Wildman_grafix 05-02-2010 08:43 AM

That should drop the price on the bank repo's.

TampaBeach 05-02-2010 08:59 AM

I would really like to hear SHOGREN chime in here. Scott???

Carder 05-02-2010 09:49 AM

According to Greg @ Shogren, they had been doing warranty work for Fountain all along, and now have to eat thousands of dollars worth of claims themselves.
Don't believe that Reggie isn't a part of the problem. He has always been one step ahead of the banks, stock markets, etc.
Look at the fabulous coup he pulled off after bankrupcy to get control of his company again, at pennies on the dollar.
We have simply been outsmarted.

DollaBill 05-02-2010 09:59 AM

give me a break? Stress cracks? welcome to boating LOL. Anyway your boat is almost 3 model years old and that stuff wouldnt be covered. You're going way overboard talking conspiracy theory and warranty work in the same breath. Besides, getting paid for warranty work as a dealer is always a gamble LOL.

VtSteve 05-02-2010 10:09 AM

I agree, warranty work is always a crap shoot. Many boat companies have gone under, and it usually ends up the same way. Genmar has been sold and broken up after the bankruptcy, same situation for warranties. Secured creditors get what they can, and customers and other unsecured creditors usually are out of luck.

Unless it's a serious problem, I always take boat warranties at far less than face value. Just like the Passport and other warranties Mercury and Volvo sell. Try debating a spark plug problem with Mercury after it fried your engine. Stress cracks are the least of your problem. The list of boats that don't have any is smaller than the fine print on the warranties :lolhit:

DollaBill 05-02-2010 10:12 AM

Is this your first boat?

RaggedEdge 05-02-2010 11:08 AM

There is a 2009 42 Lightning on the Shogren site now that states "This is a NEW boat with warranty!!!!". Sure would lead one to believe there was coverage.

VtSteve 05-02-2010 11:12 AM

Perhaps the new Fountain is taking the position that "New" (previously unsold boats, they will cover. Quite possibly a prerequisite for maintaining dealers.

FeverMike 05-02-2010 11:41 AM

Read your warranty card that came with your Fountain...stress cracks int eh gel are not covered under warranty.

I assume you mean this one/

I wonder what the real going price is on that one,,,,,,,,,, I really need to hit the lotto!:lolhit:

Seems like Shogren sold a lot of repo's the last few months, they had 3 or 4 35's right?

That probably would be propulsion system warranty from Mercury. That usually is worth more piece of mind than coverage on the hull.

Most warranties are full of fine print which allows companies to exclude coverage in just about any situation. Difference comes at the dealer level where a customer can attempt to get some satisfaction.

Warranty Clarification

The warranty covers the motors & drives.

Repos

The repo business is about the only thing that has kept dealers in good standing in business this year. Unfortuntaley the prices the new boat repos have been selling at have affected used boat values (all performance brands, not just Fountain).

The good news for boat owners is prices are creeping up as repos are being minimized. The bad news for those who didn't pull trigger, there are not very many repos left. Yes, we had 6 new 35 repos that are all gone and the customers got GREAT deals.

Regards,

Team Shogren

Warranty

Lets just say that we have sold Fountains for almost 7 years and had a GREAT run with Reggie. I never had ONE claim not paid by Reggie during that time frame. It was not until about 90 days prior to Reggie filing BK that we stopped getting paid.

Yes, we took our lumps but there are new owners now and we trust once the dust settles and they wrap there arms around the new venture that they will do the right thing.

Regards,

Team Shogren

This boat was all white and has been painted, that may be the reason no one wants it. I had a look at it when I bought my 35 repo from the slime balls at legend marine. Maybe its sitting there because word is out and people are afraid to deal with them. BTW they have no repos left in stock. All the ads you are reading here on Offshore.com are for boats they OWN!!! The boss figured if he ran some false advertising on his inventory he could generate more interest on his boats.

Yes it does now, however when I looked at the add yesterday and it did state "Full Factory Warranty". The BS comment is not called for, when the post was made it was a correct statement.

Check the add now, it also shows that it was last updated on 5/3/2010.

They also had boats tagged "bank owned" I saw the strip poker Fountain advertised as Bank Owned a few weeks ago....It made me wonder because I knew that boat was in their inventory.

Thanks Tbone. I saw all these boats too a awhile back. They are Legends inventory, not the bank. I suspect Lightning 700 works for Legend Marine-first post no other info etc. Just a BS flag to get at me.

Interesting that they know both sides. They have NOT contacted me since Mike dumped the 35 on me in Havasu. This is a bull**** post from Legend Marine.

Back4More 05-04-2010 11:27 AM

The hull dosen't need a warranty anyway.

WHOA, don't open that can of worms. I like Fountain but I can tell you, mistakes are made, and hulls do need fixing on rare occasions.:drink::evilb:

"rare occasions" is exactly right. Meaning most people will never have to deal with that

Agreed however for that one in hundred, it is very nice to have the hull warranty. BTW, I was one of the 1/100 with a new 2001 Fever, you remember those air vents on the sides:evilb: or better when their is a air void in the gel, no biggies but nice to have that warranty.

Carder 05-08-2010 08:45 AM

Some of you guys get it, and some of you Lemmings are ready to follow Reggie off a bridge.
Stress cracks, miswired battery switches, defective gel coating, leaky fresh water plumbing, etc, only served to get my attention that the quality wasn't as promised.

The bottom line is that warranty issues are a huge expense for Fountain, or they wouldn't have excluded it from their restructuring... There are a lot of Fountains that aren't living up to the warranty expectations. Obviously it was a big enough number that Fountain felt he had to stick it to the dealers and owners, vs. stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility.
We pay a premium price for a premium product that used to be backed up by a transferable warranty... that's gone.
This is how a company loses its edge, and starts to devalue.

PS: dollabill; its my sixth performance boat, third Fountain.
...am I qualified in your mind to have an opinion yet?

DollaBill 05-08-2010 09:35 AM

if it's your 3rd Fountain you should know what is right and what is wrong with them.

Carder 05-08-2010 10:29 AM

My point, exactly!

I have to agree, I understand why Fountain has done what it has done, they are in SURVIVE mode, hey all boats are going to have some problems, thats why their are warranties. But to just skip out is pretty chitty, I mean these are not $4,999 Kia. I have a very successful self friend always says "you can sheer a sheep every year but slaughter it only once" I am willing to bet all the customers who got dumped will not be return buyers.

Wildman_grafix 05-08-2010 12:56 PM

Did DONZI do the same thing? They are more or less owned by the same company now right?
