Props for 29 w/ HP500
 

I am currently spinning a 26 hydro at 5200 rpm. I am looking to get another prop and am considering a labbed 26 bravo. what have you guys tried? I'd like to find something pretty cool so i can send my 26 hydro to get labbed.

I run a labbed 24" Hydro. I know you don't have any interior, but it may be a little hard to get on plane when you lab the 26". If I had to go without the Hydro though, I would run 26" Bravo in the mean time. The hard part is finding a lefty sitting around!

mine is a right hand prop. should it be left?

I dont think it matters left or right. Fountain usually runs left hand props on their single engine boats. Most every Fountain I looked at recently 27's and 29's had left hand props. The older boats came with Machs and the later with Hydro. I have seen new ones with Bravos.

Hey Dredgeking, have you called Steve about what prop to use, I think the prop he used for top speed was a labbed 27 or 28" Hydromotive. Give me a shout if you need his number.

It does not matter if you have a left or right prop it is easy to change, all you have to do is move the shifter cable to the top side of the control, or if you just want to try a right hand prop just reverse the shifting back to go forward and up to go backwards. I will warn you if you are in big waters I would transfer over to the right hand prop, it does not put strain on the lower unit as much. On left hand rotation it wears on the top gear and there is more room for breakage on the gears.

Yes, but if you blow the top gear, it'll just blow out the top of the drive instead of down where it could wreck the lower unit. (I have experience with this.) I also wouldn't change the direction unless it was new. With just about anything mechanical, once it is use to running a certain direction...reverse it and things just don't stay the same.

I've never been in a RH single Fountain. I can say that I have no prop torque what so ever with the LH rotation.

i have prop torque. it's noticable, but not more than any other right hand single i've been in.

kirk, i've talked to steve about the 27 hydro last year.

i was looking for something different. i saw that fountain had a 30 bravo on the 29 they tested in powerboat last year. i was thinking of trying a 28 bravo. i'm just wondering if anyone else has tried bravos? i see most guys use the hydros.

I have a rh from Fountain. 2001 w/ 500efi rh XZ. spinning 26 Hydro. My old boat was a 1998 502 efi and was a lt. Although most all the single Fountains I see are LH totation.

mike, i would have moved the batt last year, but i have a sea strainer in the way. so i switched to an optima batt which is a bit smaller and lighter. helps some.
