Faulty Pulleys

So I was heading back to the dock yesterday after an awesome Memorial Weekend on Grand Lake, and smelled burnt rubber. I immediately shut the boat down and raised the hatch. Two of the pulley's were pretty much falling apart into pieces, and the belt was thrown off of course. I limped in with the other motor, luckily I wasn't far from my marina. I talked to my mechanic today and he said it happens quite often with those plastic type pulleys and they were possibly a recall at one point. I am having all pulleys replaced on both motors and recommend the same to anyone else with the same setup. I have 1998 454mpi's and assume that is the factory setup. Has anyone else had this happen?

I had it happen on a 1998 502 MPI, I put the metal pulley on it.

yea come to find out there was a recall on the plastic pulleys.....there is a kit that includes both steel pulleys and a new belt, the steel pulleys are a tad bigger than the plastic. So I am having all 4 pulleys changed out.
