97 35 Fountain

Just picked up my new to me 97 35 Fountain from Frankie out in Alabama. It should be a little different than my Pachanga.
Plan on changing all the fluids and getting it out on Grand this weekend to see how she runs. I am sure I will have a lot of questions for you guys and look forward to learning more about these boats. This forum has already taught me a lot about the boat I just picked up!
Of course I have to ask the question - what kind of speed can I expect out of this boat with the 26's that are currently on it and with the recommended 28 Bravos? Did this come from the factory with 26's?

If you are running hp500's and 4 blade 26 hydro's depending on what shape those engines are in it should run 80ish give or take a mph.

It currently has 26 Bravo's on it. So you would suggest the Hydro's?
Thanks!
Blaine

I like the paint job!

Were you unable to water test the boat before you bought it? That would have been the best way to see how fast it goes.

High 70's with 26 would be my guess. What ratio drives?

1980Condor460 07-29-2010 08:48 AM

It isn't paint at this point - it is just a vinyl wrap but it looks pretty good.
We did take it out for a quick run and the boat performed well. However, I am not familiar with running a stepped boat so we didn't run it balls to the wall.
How would I find the information on the drives?
Thanks!

Bravo's have the gear ratio stamp on the casing side on the upper.

Did you get any documentation with the boat? The performance report will tell you the particulars on the drive/trim settings as well as its out of the box top speed. Call Fountain with you HIN# and they can probably get you a copy.

Have fun...be safe.

Congrats Bro, I will help you push the sticks down on that beak tomorrow!

Techman - Only docs with the boat was from Pier 57 when the did the top ends. I called Fountain and they said because of the age it was probably in the files "across the street". SO, hopefully I will hear something within the next couple of days.
I will check out the stamp on the drives this weekend.
Thanks

I hope that the new rebuilt engine for you truck boat will work properly and I think it has a good quality. By the way, how much did it cost you?

Thanks Jim! How is the TX running? Are you going to make it to Quachita?

The TX is running strong. Only had it out once this year and got 86 mph out at Skiatook. Been taking the 27 out most of the time. Going to try and make it to Quachita, but it will be a last minute deal. You?

1980Condor460 07-30-2010 07:57 PM

I will be at Ouachita in the SJ - I did a lot of work to the pump and mill in it. It is a lot of fun and runs a lot better. It isn't a TX but it runs pretty strong for a Taylor! HA.
I got the Performance Trial info from Fountain today. The boat came with 4 blade 27's and supposedly ran 80 on the gps from the factory. I will be more impressed if it can really run 60 at 3900 rpms! If it runs stong this weekend - some labbed 28's might be the ticket.

Hey Condor are you keeping the new boat up on Grand??? If so what part? I am in Hammerhead, would like to see that thing in person sometime if I see ya out there......

iariverrat 08-09-2010 01:28 PM

Nice boat, enjoy the ride!

1980Condor460 08-09-2010 04:11 PM

Thanks guys!

Nick - I do keep it up at Grand. I am on the North end of the lake in Woodard Hollow. I have had it out the last two weekends and it runs great.

I am having an issue with the Port Oil Pressure Gauge. Not sure if it is the sender, the gauge or if I am getting ready to lose the Port engine all together. When I first start the engine the Oil Pressure reads around 75-80 but the low oil pressure light is on.Then when running the oil pressure is all over the board and the light comes on and then off with out any regard to where the pressure is. It doesn't matter what RPM I run. It never reads zero but it gets below 20 which freaks me out pretty bad. Anyone else had this problem? I ordered new senders from CP Performance and am going to have them put on next week.

My other issue is the Props. I picked up some 28's from the boat city prop shop here in OKC last week and took them to the lake with me to find that the Port engine has a prop without a brass hub in it. I know I should have checked before ordering the prop - but I figured all Bravo's were the same. Live and learn I guess.

I think this is going to be a lot like Jet Boating - always working on something and trying to get the best overall performance possible! The never ending battle!

Any input you guys have will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Blaine
