Props on a 42?

Anybody have a 42 with staggered 500 EFIs? What props have you tried? I have 28 bravo 1s and am on the limiters. I will be calling Bblades, but wondered what others have tried.

I am a big fan of my P5X's with my 525's

billeickmann 09-16-2010 12:41 PM

BZ, thanks. What size are they?

I'm running P5X 29's (came on the boat) BZ, have you tried 4 blades as a comparison for top end speed?

Honestly I just keep the X4 blades as back-ups. The P5X's preform better in every department....top end planing mid-range ect......not a big fan of merc. props

I gave Bblades a call and Brett suggested a pair of 28" labbed Maximus five blade props. I tried them and picked up about 5 mph at 3500 rpm and 3.2 on the top end. WOT rpms dropped from 5400 to 5200. Not too bad. A very different feel with the reduced slippage. I wonder what change there would have been with stock 30" bravo 1 four blades. I'm still thinking of trying some Hydromotives also, but it was down to about 34 degrees last night, so it might have to wait until spring.

what was your top end?

billeickmann 10-25-2010 02:26 PM

With the 28" Bravos four blades that came on it, she did 74.6 at 5400. It did not matter full fuel or empty, same speed. With the 28" Maximus labbed five blades, she did 77.8 at 5200 with 125 gal. fuel and 4 people. I was really hoping for more from $3300 worth of props.

$1000/mph ain't too bad if you ask me... As you get faster it gets much more expensive!

x2 if I could buy 10 mph for 20k I would be first in line.:drink:

I agree with gofastlvr, the other big plus to me is that you picked up 5MPH at your cruise speed. I will settle for more cruise efficiency anytime over top speed. Unless you intend on doing SPEED RUN'S for GLORY.

I also boat on Lake St.Clair, Trust me with a 42 Fountain that will run 75 Plus MPH You won't get passed too often. Many faster boats cannot handle the weekend water that Lake St.Clair is noted for.

I have to agree with the $1000. for a mile an hour increase being a good deal. I was hoping for more since the 28" four blades are on the rev limiter. I wonder what 30" four blades will do for her. I also am a little worried about my bravo 1 drives with the five blades. I love Lake St. Clair.

Have had 6 blade Herrings for 4 years no trouble.
