I saw on a canopied Fountain race boat an add on ac unit that worked off one of the engine pulleys.....the guys driving and throttling the boat said it worked really well......the only problem with that set up is the engine had to be running for the ac to work

I installed A/C on a boat that I had a number of years ago. It is fairly simple (although I am an air conditioning contractor). I used an automotive compressor belt driven off the engine, and an automotive evaporator mounted in the cabin (the after market type), and a water cooled condenser. I used a standard 3 ton condenser, it was about 18" across (circular) a tube in tube unit. I used a 12 volt centrifical pump for the water and installed a pickup in the hull and and exit for the water above the water line. It worked very well, at Lake Havasu in the summer (118 degrees) i could maintain 70 in the cabin of a 28' boat.

Dkahnjob: Do you have any pictures of this system? This sounds very interesting!
