35' Ex... 100mph?

Hey guys- bought a 35' single step last summer. Best I've gotten out of it was about 81 mph GPS. That was with two people, half load of fuel, etc. Good conditions, cool water, air etc. Running stock 26 Hydros. Have a set of 28 hydros in the garage for this next year, but am thinking of possibly doing something more. Is it possible to get to 100mph with a set of Whipples or Prochargers? The boat has 500EFI's with B1's at 1.5:1 ratio. Can these drives handle the extra power, or should I be looking at B-maxes or the like to handle the power...? Just looking for some input. Seems like some run the stock bravos and then others upgrade to stouter drives. Is it even worth it with a single step boat?

Hi!!

I guess you can take the engines to around 630 hp if you change to XR gears. But that said, you shold run it smoothly up on plane and not jump high wakes with too much throttle. I believe the boat would run about 94 mph with this power. I suggest Bravo props over Hydromotive. Hering can be an option aswell, but is more expencive. Het me hear what you get for numbers! Good luck.

I have the same boat as you. If a 100 is what you are after, there is no cheap way to get there. but this Is how i would start, I would go with the vortec supercharger. they are less expensive than a whipple but a better package than the procharger. you did not state how many hours are on your motors but I would assume over a hundred, so I would at least do a topend and replace the head gaskets with mls or cometic head gaskets. Next, I have run XRs for years and you can and will break them. How long you run them is dependent on how you drive the boat. The bmax that you mention is hard to get parts for and I am not sure they are still in business. a better choice would be a imco scx drive - next I would go with a 2" shorty with a 1.34 ratio. That will keep you in the 30 to 32 pitch propellers. Your final question is it worth it with a single step boat? That you will have to answer for yourself but for me, personally, the answer is YES.
Hope this helps
Eric

Do the base 5lbs. Stage-1 Whipple kits and leave it at that. Its going to get real costly for a reliable 100mph driveline.
Yes you can still get Bmax drives and parts...new owner has brought the product out of the toilet.

What B4M said!

The motors have a little over 200 hours on them, but just had all the valve springs redone by a merc tech. I assume that's what you were referring to with "top end". Can my stock B1's be reliable with the 5lb Whipple kits? I run mainly in Lake Michigan (bays and shorter open water runs) and inland lakes. I try to take it easy on the drivetrain if at all possible, but I really don't want to put the boat in the water every weekend with the thought of one of the drives grenading under the additional power... Are there ways to just beef up the internal parts that break without buying all-new drives? Just looking to get some ideas so I know what I'm looking at when it's all said and done. Thanks for the input so far guys....

Bob- you been able to ride this year yet? We had about 25" on the ground and the winter was shaping up nicely.... then the meltdown happened- back to square one.....

that boat with the proper set up should run just south of 90. with the whipples should hit 100. 1;36 for more prop speed.as for bravos the 1;36 is usualy the strongest set of gear and on the single step has worked well. so long as you dont mash the sticks out of thwe hole or forghet to lift out of the water you'll be fine. bravos will sustain 700 no sweat.

That's encouraging... Seems like the general consensus is Whipple for the SC's though... Guess I will start looking into this in greater detail. Out of curiosity though... how do you get high 80's out of a single step 35 with 500efi's.... I'd be pumped to see 84-85 out of mine... just can't seem to get there. If I went to 1.36:1's are there some aftermarket gears and shafts that are stronger that will fit into the stock Bravo cases so I can get some additional strength as well as higher prop speed? Thanks for all the input so far- if anyone has further info- feel free to chime in.

Mine ran 106 with the previous owner. Appr. 800 hp per side, Imco Extremes with -2 shortie lowers and extension boxes. Plus, the bottom was blueprinted (everything counts!).

I'm REALLY interested to see what happens with a fresh set of Wesco 540s in it this year (should be about 550 hp each). Also doing shorty lowers on the stock Bravos. My tired old 502EFIs got the boat to 73 (75 on its best day)...it's gonna be a fun spring!

Also...will Caddy be rideable by the weekend? Thinkin' of comimg up...got melted out in Christmas last weekend and came home after only 550 miles :(
