Come on man If you have to ask take up BLO boating cause you wont like it when you are running WFO like you will most of the time!
Also GAS is the cheapest part of GO FAST boating |
About a tank full a day....

on the sales side it is a very common question I myself never thought of it as a qualifier for buying a gofast but it is a common question !

It is all very relevant to me, I like details etc... and if it wasn't I would have a 1.5 million dollar boat on order already :)

I can give you some pretty good figures as I am a bit of a detail freek also. I had a 2000 single step 35 Lightning with HP500EFI's and I averaged 20-25 gph when cruising at 3,000 rpm which was about 40-45 mph depending on weight. If I averaged my tanks to included all of the ideling in and out of the 5 mph areas my average at Lake Havasu, where I did most of my boating was 15-16 gph. I think 1.2 to 1.3 mpg is a good figure if you aren't pushing it. If you want to go faster then you will use a lot more gas.
Hope this helps. David |

Hope this helps. David AND GET THERE FASTER..................."AND THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT" |
You don't buy a go fast boat for
The gas mileage. They all suck. Who cares. |

The way I justify it:
At 60MPH I'm at 1MPG 60 Gallons an hour and 60 miles in an hour. A cruiser boat burns 30 gallons an hour but only travels 30 miles. In 2 hours it'll do 60 miles and burn 60 gallons. My weekends are short so I have to get to my destination(s) quickly. It's more fun too. My favorite trips are about 5 days, 180-200 miles. Gas $700, mooring $150, food $150 $1000 for a 5 day trip for two, doing what and who I love most, when and where I feel like. I do look forward to retirement when I get a boat that burns 13 gallons in 60 miles. By then I'll have the 6 hours to go 60 miles. WTF |

They can get expensive pretty fast on a triple boat if you have to buy three sets at $5k a wack. They went to a "cool collar" in later years and it sounds like those headers hold up better. I ran a 1993 42 525 SC (454 motor) it burned 92+ and loved it. I mean it could rip thru a tank a gas (all four of them) like no tomorrow even staying out of the boost. I don't have cruise mpg info. I was told as a general rule for EFI engines, divide the HP by 12-12.5 for gallons per hour at WOT. Carbed engines are not quite as efficient so divide the HP by 11.5-12. Triple 500 EFI's would be 470x3/12 = 117.5 gph at WOT Triple 525 EFI's would be 540x3/12 = 135 gph at WOT Twin 500/525's would be 78/90 gps at WOT |
Never really figured the mpg on my Fountains. I do believe they are reasonably efficient on fuel, as far as perf boats go.
I can tell you that the faster you go the more fuel you burn, and the faster you go the more fun you have. Fountains do well in the fun per gallon catagory! :D |
Buy a wave runner!!!
|
Ive never figured my gas milage before but as I sit here and think it has to be about a gallon per min or 60 gal/hr....Never really thought about this before cuz I just make sure she has fuel and I go and have fun(thats what i think about)
|
Yeah this is a topic if you think about it too long, you're probably going to be upset :)
|
Bout 500 a day for fun or about 1000 on a good pr
|
:party-smiley-004:60-90 gallons per hour wide open more with carbs&blower set ups!
|
I just know I don't tell my wife what it cost to fill up and I don't have problems because she would freak out if she knew.
|
It's a good idea to burn as much as you can, you end up with a larger fuel tax refund check in the winter that way! It's like a savings account. :lolhit:
|
on a 42' guessing about 1 mpg at a slow cruise 1/2-3/4 at wot with big motors
|
I do some bean counting myself...but never on my boat! FPG is my concern on the lake.
|
The only time i think about fuel is when I am wondering if I have enough to get to where i am going? ...and the answer is usually, no.
|
on my 42 with 557s 871s 4 1050dominators i never checked miles per gallon , pin the sticks and listen to the whine.
