You have Flat Tappet cams. I would recommend Kendall "Titanium" racing oil. Available at most part stores on the shelf. Supposedly has more zinc in it, which helps protect the camshafts/lifters. Brad Penn oil is real good to, just a not found on the shelf often. Dont forget to grease the u joints, gimbal bearing, and swivel shafts on the transom assembly. Change the fuel filters. A good off the shelf filter is a AC Delco PF1218 or Mobil 1 301 or 302. I forget. Dont run the fram car filters. Too many have collapsed and ruined engines.

Those 454 mags are great engines. Really good parts in them, and they are easily upgradeable. Left bone stock, they will go a looong time. My buddy had a set that had 900 hours on them in a Chris Craft Stinger. Still had the merc factory sealing wire on the intake manifolds. They ran strong even at 900 hours. Good luck! Post some pics of the new ride...

The Brad Penn oil is one of the best to use. Agree on the Fram filters, altho the problem they had with them was several years ago. I knew 3 guys that had the HP-4's and 6's collapse on them back about 5-6 years ago.

I actually tore apart the thermostat housing before I stored it and tried to take the thermostat out, do they come out really hard or what. I was in the middle of storing it and really didnt want to get to in depth. They just seemed really seeted in there.
