Yep, Rebuilt my drives myself. Takes several specialtiy tools.
You need the carrier nut wrench, and then a puller to remove the prop shaft carrier. There is also a tool to set the depth of the 2 seals, however if your shaft has gotten grooved, you might ???? be able to set the seals at a different depth so they run on a non worn area. Then to reinstall the carrier (depending if you have the crush ring or shims), gotta set your bearing preload using a good in/pd torque gauge. You NEED the tools and a manual. Probably cheaper to have it fixed vs doing it yourself. Being a tool maker, I made all my tools and improved on many over the merc design. |
I just had one of mine done under warranty. They changed the pinion also from what I have heard that is recommended.Check your bellows also they sometimes go when the pinion gets rust on it and it takes out the seal.
