29' fever opinion needed
Hey I am new to this forum and fountains but not new to boats. I am looking at a 98 fountain 29' Fever for sale locally. it looks really celan, have not inspected, and has 200 hrs on original 454 efi mag's. The owner bought the boat with 45 hrs on it and has had it since. I think this would be a good starter boat for me if i can get into it for the right price. Our family boat is a 400ss formula with 502's which I maintain and drive, but I need my own boat since i live out of town. Can any one give me an idea of what would be a good price for me to offer in this market. Im thinking 26k to 30 but dont want to offend the guy. He has had it listed for 39k for a long time now and he said he "needs to sell." it also has no trailer and has been kept at an indoor dry dock. Thanks ahead for your time and input!

I will say that I have that exact same boat, same year and motors with about 400 hrs on boat and I wouldn't take anything less than 30k. Depends on the condition of the boat tho, I just updated the dash in mine and have new interior. If this boat is in good condition and you can buy it for that, I think that would be a pretty killer deal IMO. Good Luck!

Thank you for the input. here is what NADA says. I did not put any options in there. they seemed to not affect the price much.

I would say he is close with the addition of the cost of the trailer. It all depends on the condition of the boat, I bet if you offered him 35K he may counter offer but you could get it for less than 39K.

My Bad, I read it again. You are correct. He is High and I would subtract the 6K for the trailer from my original numbers. If he is looking to get anything more than NADA retail I would think the boat will sit for quite some time.

Thats a good lookin fever you have there rgrgoog. What kind of speeds are you seein with your 502's?

I had a '98 single 500. I personally prefer this boat in a single, but I'm not going to start that bickering. Nice ride regardless.
He's not too far off on his asking price. I doubt you could swing the 20s, but more power to you for trying. |

I am only running about 3-5 lbs of boost (580-600hp/engine). If I were to up it to 6-8 I think I could see High nineties. I am just shy (5200 rpm) of the limiters now (5400 limiters) with my 4 blade 30s. I am going to try a set of 29 Hydromtives and a set of 28P Bravos ones labbed in the next month or two. |

there is no trailer with the boat. new price on trailer is 6k.
Also if it were me I would take no less than 34-35 without the trailer with trailer hes probably spot on. Not to be mean and you can try nothing to lose, but 20's for that boat you are probably pipe dreaming. |
This all also depends on how bad this guy wants to sell the boat. If he is hard up for money and must get rid of it, or has already purchased another boat, etc - you might be able to negotiate a hell of a lot more than if he doesn't mind whether it sits....

I have the same 29' Fountain with new 540 and Imco drive. 700 hp This would make a great boat for someone that doesn't want the headaches and fuel, weight, expense of twinn engines. fresh water boat from las vegas "lake mead" just 38k on trailer. if interested i can send pics.

Yeah, I have been pricing these for a few months and 39k is high, 35k with a trailer would be a good deal. If you can get it for low 30's you will be in good shape and have a real nice boat

Ive been searching for a while too and 39 without a trailer is probably high but with a trailer I dont think it is. Most boats of this age are in the 40's and 50's. Alot of people think its a piss poor economy which is it is right now. But there just as many people that have money right now that own boats like this that dont. Unless somebody is to the point of getting rid of the boat or lose their home they are going to give it away. I would gamble if its an original owner or even a second owner hes got it paid off so its not like he loses a payment by getting rid of it. |
This boat your looking at was for sale in MI a year or 2 back. Believe he wanted low/mid 40's for it when I looked at it with the trailer. It had very low hours on it also (less than 100). If he still wants 39k for it with no trailer he will be sitting on it for a while. Cash talks and honestly a 29 with twins is not a popular boat. There was a 96' 29 with Factory twin 500HP's and a trailer that could have been bought for $32k with a trailer right around the corner from me...it sat for 4 months and finally got repo'd. I would think your close at $30k.
