96 502 mpi loss of power NEED HELP!

I have a 96 fountain fever 29' with a single 502 mpi.... I can not get the boat on plane...runs strong in neutral reving it up but when you put it in gear and throttle it up it looses power and stays at about 3k RPMS im not sure what's going on with it? Any ideas would greatly help
Let me know what you guys think

You may want to test your TPS sensor "Throttle Position Sensor" using a scan tool. I had similar symptoms with a 502 mag. would not achieve 100% wot, I changed mine out for $60.00, 15min job. also check throttle cable and linkage for binds.

I don't have anyway of testing the tps sensor on its own so we unplugged it and when we put it in gear and gave it alittle throttle it would cut out completly so it possibly could be still the tps but I don't know what else I can do? Other than order one and it might fix the problem....the cables seem to be bind free and are opening one butterfly then the second one a WOT...untill I buy a tps sensor im out of ideas

Being in the auto business I can tell you that a car or truck will start acting like that when the tps goes out.....I am no mechanic and I know boats are totally different in every way but I bet the tps is the right track.....

Do u a least have a ohm meter?
A tps is just a reostat, u can put a meter on it and move through the range. See if the reading changes smooth.
Thinking out loud here but u may be able to look up on the net what it should be.
A better test would be to watch the voltage when the motor is powered up but that is a bit harder.
You are kind of running blind not having any way to hook up to the CPU.

:lolhit:the tps volts should be .7nd 1.0 closed throttleand progressively go up to 4.5to 5 volts also check fuel pressure that fuel system has averry crude system the screan gets cloged in the secondary fuel pump Ihade the same system in my old boat
